Someone you don't know is a FLAG for everyone, male or female.

I've done a number of weekends alone (Trek to me is a week long trip).

Stovie, don't believe all the ads you see. 8^)

Hush nav, I am trying to help Pamela out. ;-)

I've gone on lots and lots of backpacking trips with internet freaks I don't know. ;-)
I think many of them are listed on the Trip Page, LOL.

Actually, that would make you part of the loner clique.

It's a rather exclusive group.

“how many of you have ever done a trek alone?”

I agree w Navi, think of a Trek as an extended trip, I do a lot of solo weekends. You'll find there's a lot of benefits to going solo if you try, you get to hike at your own pace, stop & take photo's / smell the flowers whenever you want, etc. It's the ideal "hike your own hike" deal!

Baby I always want to hike with you. Honey you know that. My trouble is I'm way too old and slow to keep up with ya! That's why they call me a solitary hiker. :)

Like many other things, I first learned how to bp by going solo......

if we can count 5 days solo as a trek? Or does it have to be 7 days?

Hmmm... just saw some gorgeous pics of Desolation Wilderness some guys took on a trip there last weekend... sooo... I'm thinking of doing a last-minute trip this weekend, just too beautiful to stay away! Leave Sat, play in the snow & camp, come home Sunday.

Anyone wanna' join me?

hiking partners
I got started with backpcking with the CHAOS list inthe SF east bay. After that, with CONFUSED and then the Sacramento Hiking List and Northern CA Hiking.

I've also gone out on 9 days backpackingtrailcrew trips with people that I met at the www.trailcrew.org site.

I've met lots of wonderful folks that way.

pistachio - where do you live? I have always wanted to do one of the trail crew trips. Tell me about them!

wanderer - where are you going? I don't want to do an overnight in the snow but I might come meet you. The girls haven't been in the snow yet this season. On the other hand, I have been fighting plantar fasciits for a few months and hiking isn't always the best thing. Are you taking your pup?

Baby, Honey (Sol) - I don't mind slow if I have good company! I always enjoy your hiking conversations!

Pepper: Karen and I have been doing the Tahoe Rim Trail backcountry camps for probably 6 years or so. There's 2 dates, we usually do the Labor day camp. Plenty of food, drink and work to be done. Always lots of fun. That said, we may not make it this year because of our JMT trip.

trailcrew
Pepperdog: I live in the Sacramento area. The group I've been volunteering with is the High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew, based out of Fresno. They are one of the few volunteer groups that doesn't charge you to volunteer. Shane, the head dude, gets sponsors from the local community. Check out their website and click on the "discussio board" They have a lot of trips posted for the summer already!

Great group of people. They have backpacking trailcrews that last a week. they also have base camp extended weekend crews for those who don't backpack. They send a cook to prepare meals for you, too.

Pistachio - I have been checking out their website for a couple of months and it looks great. It is nice to get confirmation from someone who has been there. Sometimes these things are little more than a good website.

By the way - I live in Davis. Maybe we have to have another Sacto area get together.

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president...

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

[Chorus:]
California Uber Alles
California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California
Uber Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big Bro' on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

[Chorus]

Now it is 1984
Knock-knock at your front door
It's the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes here's a pretty flower.

DIE on organic poison gas
Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown

Beer Meeting!! Beer Meeting!!!

The first was on Cinqo de Mayo in 2002. the 5th of May is on a Saturday, want to try again?

In my mind "Sacto area" includes all land and sea areas within - let's say - 4000 miles of Sacramento. Did I leave anyone out? I want to be in the biggest clique in the world.

It was a funny occurance at one of our meetings, but I won't say who had a few beers too many and came up with that new name for her! :)

Hey, Spirit Coyote, how are ya?

Any of you Cali folks headed out this weekend? I'm headed to Desolation Wilderness somewhere, probably park @ Loon Lake & head in from there.

Mtn Steve & others... Be VERY careful at Mt. Lassen... avalanche danger is rated very high!

Beer Meeting
Well, now...there are lots of different places for a beermeeting in sacto.

Some ideas:

Hoppy Brewing Co -Folsom Bl $ 63rd
Brew It UP!-H & 14th St
The Bonn Lair-J St & 36th (English brews on tap)
Sacramento Brewing Co. Marconi & Fulton
The Fox & Goose-10th & R St

Any preferences?

Let's stick to downtownish - maybe we can lure some of the out of the area folks. Of course y'all could always come to Sudwerk in Davis, site of the first beer fest (that I knew about and wasn't connected to a trip).
