BTW, XL I knew that was a line from a joke. I'd heard it before. Could have been funny too, except that sass had never heard the joke so she took it literal. The cool thing to do is say, oops, mea culpa, no offense intended, then direct your hostility toward the first person that really pissed you off in that thread instead of towards the man defending his wife.

I usually spend four or more months there each year. This trip is a test to see if I can get my knees working again. Last year my program failed, just like my knees did. Usually, after almost two months I can do the AT within the Park, making the 5-8 miles between the shelters each day as my leg muscles get strong enough to hold me. My knees never will do it again. Also, my trail diet takes off most of my excess weight. My knees gave out completely in November of 2005 and I was on crutches for two months because of the pain. The knees are not much better now, but by starting slowly, I hope to have success again.

I have spent at least one overnight at all but six of the backcountry shelters and sites. At some sites I have stayed 50-60 nights, perhaps. There are 103 or 104 of them.

I do want to read your trip report.

I do have two conflicting set of plans for after this trip. They are to hike the 563 mile Finger Lakes Trail in NY or make a trip West with a daughter and granddaughter.

“Crazy...I am sorry Friday started a LONG weekend. The laptop (um with the wireless hookup) I normally work off of (and yes I do work on the road since sometime when you are waiting for a fire to be cleared so you can go dig it out you have nothing better to do) has a hard drive that is dying....

Additionally on Friday my other half had to go in for Gallbladder removal. That combined with her Muscular Dystrophy (just diagnosed a few weeks ago) meant I spent most of Friday either in the hospital or at the house monitoring her vitals and keeping pain meds etc flowing.
