Maybe I'll try Capitol Peak
I'm thinking of trying to do a trip to Colorado the last week of August this year. I might give Capitol Peak a try while there. Has anyone climbed it? Is anyone interested in doing the climb that week?

Any info will be appreciated.

I'll be interested - I've not done it yet. Its challenging and FUN.

summitpost.org has really good info on it - and pics.

Yes, I see the info on summitpost.

Roam - any suggestions on a good guide book for the Colorado 14er's?

I'd be up for Capitol, but it's a lot of exposure.

Yeah, most folks really like (me included) Gerry Roach - Colorado's Fourteeners - From Hikes to Climbs (Second Edition) (published by Fulcrum Guides).

It gives good info on trail heads, what's accessible by regular vehicle and all the alternate routes up the mountain.

Capitol does have some really nice exposure - some people rope up to cross the knife edge - just to gain some comfort. It's probably one of the most exhilerating and exciting 14'rs because of that exposure - but still is not a technical rock climb.

I think I could do it without roping up, but it sure would be nice to have company on it; so if anyone can do it sometime the last week in August it would be great. Would it be better done as an overnight trip or as a long day hike?

I'm going to order the Roach book because I'd like to do one or two ther peaks too while there.

I think I'll add this to the trips page.

It's a pretty good hike to Capitol, so it's probably best as an overnighter.
