I am in need of a picture (think Norman Rockwell) that my 7th graders can write use to write a story. I want to find something on-line to print off, but apparently I am not wise to the ways of doing this! Who better to turn to than the folks of TT?

I don't really care what the picture is, as long as its school appropriate, and shows a scene that could be interpreted in different ways.

Nothing like waiting until the last minute to get this done, huh? I need it for school tomorrow.

Thanks!

There are a lot of free stock photo sites out there. It isn't likely that anyone will make a big deal about it, but simply copying someones copyrighted picture and using it with your class is illegal.

LOL..give em the WHITE paper test.

Old Psychological test, you give someone a WHITE sheet of paper and ask them what they see. I think it was Astronaut Scott Carpenter who took one look at it and said,"its upside down" it was only after the psycho had leaned halfway across the table that he discovered Scott was pulling his chain. (LOL)

The question is how much acid did Dali take?

Haha!! Smiley would probably be considered the coolest teacher in the school, if she did pick that one. Either that, or the craziest.

Seeing that Dali was deeply into surrealism long before the psychoactive effects of LSD were discovered in 1943 I'm guessing none.

Well, a google search of "Dali drugs" turns up this quote by him:

"I don't do drugs. I am drugs."

But then there's this one too:

Salvador Dali, painter "Everyone should eat hashish, but only once."

You are what you eat? haha. Smiley should probably provide that quote to her students, along with the picture.

Actually Dali used what the surrealists called the Paranoid Critical Transformation Method to conceptualize his paintings. The easiest way to explain that is when you look at something like clouds or the sky through tree limbs or even a wall and after a while of staring at it you begin to see patterns and shapes that aren't really there and your mind starts to create images.

Dali took that to a whole different level. Basically without drugs he could induce a paranoid state and once he returned to normal state he would paint what he saw. He referred to his paintings as hand painted dream photographs.
