One pole $116. Yowzah. That would be a turn-off for me. Now where did I put that Hustler?

Jimmy ..
REI sells a similar product made by the same company. Weighs a tad more: 6.1 oz/pole. Costs $130.00/pr. I have them and wouldn't trade them for anyother pole out there. Here's the link:

It doesn't look like it collapses down. That’s a turnoff for me, in addition to the price. I need to be able to collapse the polls down to strap to my pack to do rock scrambles.

hehe... yeah... that's all it takes. :)

i'll ask before i order but i am pretty sure the price is per pair. if so then they are cheaper than the rei poles -and- 33% lighter. for me this is significant.

it took me a while to get over not having an adjustable trekking pole, especially because i used trekking poles to pitch my tarp. i found that a simple clove hitch did the trick and that the fixed-length poles actually worked better than the adjustable poles for pitching a shelter.

like most things in hiking what's best is a personal thing... like the color of toothbrush you choose.

Question: Do you order them to a specific length?

It's not about the length, it's about how you use them....

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

yeah, you order them to length. i will set up an adjustable pole that i have properly, measure it, and order to that length.

I would still want adjustable, js, because you can use them for other stuff, like supporting a tarp, leaning your pack up against them, etc. Also, I use mine for XC skiing, and it's often necessary to change the length for that. For that matter, if I'm scrambling up a steep slope in summer, I will shorten mine, and then lengthen them when coming down.

prolite gear replied to me... the price is for one (1) pole! ungh, the pole don't look so sexy to me no more. the rei pole is looking pretty good now. if I took out the adjuster and glued them together i bet i could shave off 2 oz of weight (make them fixed length).
Jimmy san

I think you're crazy to take out that adjuster. I'd shave 2oz somewhere else.
Sassafras

hehe

i looked at the REI poles today. they are three-section poles (i thought the might be two-section poles for some reason) so if i take out the adjusters i might be able to lose more than 2oz... :)

it's oz counting sass... 2 oz here, 2 there ... it all adds up.

I can see it now. Jimmy "fixes" his new poles for the upcoming Mammoth Cave trip to shave off 2 ounces.

About one mile in (think about it) and while trying to keep up with the speedy Wounded Knee, one of Jimmy's "fixed" poles snaps and he stumbles, falls and hurts his ankle. Wounded Knee askes if he is okay, then notices he cannot walk.

I adjust mine enough that I, too, would shave weight elsewhere. 2 ounces isn't going to make any difference to your arms.
