DANG!!! I misstyped the title. So here's a cut and paste from my "Julies" thread. D'oh!

Anyone see this show? It's on MTV. I just found out about it this weekend since I never turn that channel on. Anyway, it's a reality show based on real kids who get arrested and go through the juvenile system. It's filmed on located at the Lake County Juvenile Center in Crown Point, Indiana, which is run by Judge Mary Beth Bonaventura. She is a hard ass judge here in NW Indiana and she runs the LCJC. I'm getting a kick out of watching it since I know a bunch of the people. I'm having Tucker watch it with me to give him an idea of what it's like there. Try to scare him enough to stay on the good track.

Ruby...scared straight never really worked, sorry. When we work with them we cover safety, and then explain the results of making bad decisions.

We had one kid rotate through a program and he was a lost cause. Next year he goes to the State System and he will be a lifer.

i never thought "scared straight" looked like something that would work. a buncha old guys cussing at a bunch of kids and showing it on tv just looked like a buncha old guys cussing. maybe if they promised the kids a good ass-raping and gave them a visual demonstration of exactly whats thats like...i know thatd scare me into becoming a choirboy for life

LOL....like the guy in my office who grew up in the Catholic church...we were hearing the recitiation of Priest events on the radio I hear him say,"DAMN now I am pissed"

I walked into his office to see what was wrong. He says,"I grew up catholic, I was in the choir, the alter boys, everything....and you know I thought I was a pretty good looking little kid."

Crash, we busted a kid in Charleston one night. The typical 15 year old tough ass. So they lock him in a "cell" (juvenile was coming for him in the morning) and about five minutes later this HUGE black guy with cut off sleeves is put in the cell.

The guy sits down on the bunk and says,"Com're sweetcheeks" and pats the bunk.

The kid spent the night backed up to the bars of the cell (LOL)>

Oh the black guy was an undercover officer, they parents had been informed of this little manuver and approved. We never saw the kid again.

I don't mean to imply that I need to scare my son or that he's misbehaving. But what I do like about this show -- as do my girlfriends (all moms) -- is it shows how it really is when a kid is sent to the LCJC. It gives them a sense of the "real world" and how they aren't coddled there and cannot get away with manipulative behavior. It's interesting to see the way the parents are put through the wringer and how that affects the kids to know that it's their fault.
