He's been experimenting lately. Stepping outside the Shire, if you will. He's getting bored with his hobby as an amateur astronomy website reader.

your right tilt, your picture of a shirt making jokes about a guy who nearly cut his old ladies head off is entirely appropriate, point taken.

OH ---- That's a good one ----

I wore the "Aircraft Carrier" shirt to the grocery store yesterday and this woman asked if I was in the Navy.

I said, "Why do you ask?".

She said, "The aircraft carrier on your shirt."

I said, "It's not an aircraft carrier..."

She stared at it for about ten seconds (from 2 feet away)... and finally I said, "It's a desk with paper airplanes on it."

And she said, "OOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooh........." LOL

Seriously, will they let amputees back into combat?

Nope.

The big bummer is that back in the day if a Soldier who was airborne qualified was injured you could see an amputee instructing future paratroopers. Those days are gone. I geuss our youth are too tender to see reality. Damn shame, we have some amazing talented and high quality soldiers who have years of experience to pass on.

I agree. Seems like a waste of knowledge. You'd think they'd at least bring them into a classroom setting to discuss tactics and what not.

Gotta shelter our future "warfighters" (thats the new army term) from the nasty bits I geuss. Personally I think its hard core and motivating as hell to see a wounded vet standing proud and serving. I was freaked out enough going to airborne school at 18, seeing a combat wounded amputee screaming his guts out at me woulda made me piss my pants.

Yeah, imagine what it'd do the enemy's psyche as well to see those guys in action. The prosthetics these days are pretty incredible, the legs moreso than the arms but they are still pretty amazing.

Amputees back in combat!!!!
In an about-face by the Pentagon, the military is putting many more amputees back on active duty - even back into combat.

Williamson, a 30-year-old Chicago native who is missing his left leg below the knee and three toes on the other foot, acknowledged that some will be skeptical of a maimed soldier back in uniform.

http://www.sptimes.com/2007/05/31/Worldandnation/Military_amputees_bac.shtml

So far, the Army has treated nearly 600 service members who have come back from Iraq or Afghanistan as amputees. Thirty-one have gone back to active duty, and no one who asked to remain in the service has been discharged, Arata said.

Most of those who return to active duty are assigned to instructor or desk jobs away from combat. Only a few have returned to the war zone, and only at their insistence, Arata said
