I have thought about getting a trailerable Mac or Hunter a few times. My wife loves powerboating. I personally would sell the stinkpotter and get a sailboat if she would go along with it. Her opinion of sailing is it is too much like work.”

“Skip the little boats and go for a used Hunter 26 water ballast if you want a trailerable.

Don't fool with anything under 30' for nontrailerables, IMHO.

Due to hurricanes, I have to have the option of yanking that baby out of the water ASAP.
Mine have not hit the water since Katrina, too many other things to mess with. Maybe next Spring my house repairs will be complete and I can do a TT sailing trip/campout to Horn Island.

“I sold my 2003 Capri 22 last August. The reason is that all I want to do is traipse around the mountains these days. August was the first month since 1987 that I haven't made a boat payment. For awhile I had both a competition skiboat and a sailboat and was making payments on both. It's nice not to be making payments and to be traipsing around the mountains instead.”

I have sailed my whole life. Until my Dad's Parkinson's grounded him sailing was always part of my visits whether here, in
Florida, or up in Michigan. He owned 2, identical Cape Dorey's. The April 1980 cover of Yachting magazine has one of the boats he has owned on the cover..a ketch.

“I sailed on a friends boat for years until I got tired of it seriously interfering with my other outdoor interests.

It was a blast, saw tons of sea life - whales, porpoises, seals, sun fish - caught lots of fish, saw lots of way cool places. Racing was even fun on occasion, but I didn't want to do it all the time.

It was like backpacking, only on a boat.

“I have a Catalina 14.2 that I sail on Stockton Lake and sometimes Skiatook Lake and rarely Truman Lake. It's a good little tub for day sailing.”

“It'll fit in my basement. You can get older 20'-22' type daysailors for $1500-$3000 right now, but then you'd also have to pay probably $1000 per year on slip fees. This is only step 1. Plus, with the open full I can take a kiddo or two once I learn what the hell I'm doing.

As I progress, the bus. partner said we could go out on his and I could learn there too. His is a 48' in Pensacola. Obviously, I need an intermediate step. Heck, if I got to learn all of this and made a return to the BVI within 3 years I'd consider that pretty good.”
