Just bought a boat any sailors out there ?View Messages“We just boat a sailboat so I am thinking about a TT sailing trip. Any other sailors ot there with boats on LI sound?” 12:57:54 PM 3/21/07 “SOunds like time for the obligatory Sailing jokes..... The two happiest times of a boat owner's life. 1> When he buys the boat 2> When he sells the boat.” 12:59:04 PM 3/21/07 Definition: “Keel (v): What your wife will do to you when she finds out you bought a sailboat.” 1:01:56 PM 3/21/07 “I have two, but not on LI Sound.” 1:02:55 PM 3/21/07 “What kind you get? I have a MacGregger 22 and a Hunter 23.5.” 1:16:11 PM 3/21/07 “Good luck with your boat LThiker. What kind you get? I have a MacGregger 22 and a Hunter 23.5.” StoveStomper 1:16:11 PM I hope Stovestomper thinks of his backpacking friends come regatta time! I have thought about getting a trailerable Mac or Hunter a few times. My wife loves powerboating. I personally would sell the stinkpotter and get a sailboat if she would go along with it. Her opinion of sailing is it is too much like work.” 1:23:35 PM 3/21/07 “Skip the little boats and go for a used Hunter 26 water ballast if you want a trailerable. Don't fool with anything under 30' for nontrailerables, IMHO. Due to hurricanes, I have to have the option of yanking that baby out of the water ASAP. Mine have not hit the water since Katrina, too many other things to mess with. Maybe next Spring my house repairs will be complete and I can do a TT sailing trip/campout to Horn Island. last edited: 3/21/07 1:33:37 PM” 1:30:36 PM 3/21/07 Trolling for Sailors.... “SUUUURE, use the old "I just bought a boat" ploy...heck if ya wanna meet a few sailors just come OUT and say so....there's nothing wrong with that..... last edited: 3/21/07 1:47:58 PM” 1:46:35 PM 3/21/07 LT “Where you gonna keep it?” 1:54:31 PM 3/21/07 “I have three sail boats. The longest is 9'5" long and weighs 37lbs. fully rigged.” 1:55:31 PM 3/21/07 “Isn't mapleleaf the resident boater? AND in NY?” 1:58:44 PM 3/21/07 “"We just boat a sailboat so I am thinking about a TT sailing trip. Any other sailors ot there with boats on LI sound?" LT How does one "boat a sailboat"? Is that anything like "do the do"?” 2:02:23 PM 3/21/07 “I sold my 2003 Capri 22 last August. The reason is that all I want to do is traipse around the mountains these days. August was the first month since 1987 that I haven't made a boat payment. For awhile I had both a competition skiboat and a sailboat and was making payments on both. It's nice not to be making payments and to be traipsing around the mountains instead.” 4:16:20 PM 3/21/07 “Nice thread - a bunch of men that want to get on each others boat and go sailing. Add Seinfeld quote here.” 4:20:21 PM 3/21/07 “Thilly thaylors!” 4:52:12 PM 3/21/07 “Everything I own I paid for. :-)” 9:27:48 PM 3/21/07 “Congrats on the new boat LtHiker. We have a Precision 23 but keep her moored in the summers on Lake Michigan.” 9:30:27 PM 3/21/07 “Hey LT, congrads on the sailboat. Now I just gotta get that new boat to join you. Stove, man they make those Hunters practically in my back yard. They're pretty. They even will give you a tour of the process and let ya go for a look-see in the large ones. As big as the lengthy ones are, the still seem so light. For deep water, I'd sat go with a folkboat. ' least that's the one I want (~$35k).” 12:30:34 AM 3/22/07 “Boat: A hole in the water you pour money into. Congrats, I have sailed Rebel and Lightning class. Sailing is a relaxing day occasionally punctuated with real fear.” 4:53:16 AM 3/22/07 AHOY YE SWABS! “What boat did you buy LT? I've got my salty sea-dog trailor sailor paws on 16 and 18 ft. Hobies. A party on the water sounds great! Check out this video of the "Infamous Beer Toss", it's a huge file but well worth the download; http://switchboard.real.com/player/email.html?PV=6.0.12&&title=beer%5Ftoss&lin k=http%3A%2F%2Fwwwfloridasucks.org%2Fsailing%2Fvideos%2Fbeer%5Ftoss.mpg or goto http://www.thebeachcats.com goto Catamaran Videos and do a search for "beer toss" last edited: 3/22/07 7:26:12 AM” 7:23:32 AM 3/22/07 “I love this thread...... umm i have a few boats and other water toys grrrrr baby!!” 7:52:06 AM 3/22/07 “I knew a guy who had a Folkboat for a while. It had the cutest little Volvo-Penta diesel you ever saw (inboard). For Sure, Bobo. Watch out for that sudden stop, LOL... I was just thinking of all the times we'd catch a good gust just before making landfall on my brother's 16 --- "All Ashore That's Going Ashore!" Thanks for the links -- I'll check 'em out later.” 7:54:42 AM 3/22/07 “Congratulations on you new boat, LtHiker! I have sailed my whole life. Until my Dad's Parkinson's grounded him sailing was always part of my visits whether here, in Florida, or up in Michigan. He owned 2, identical Cape Dorey's. The April 1980 cover of Yachting magazine has one of the boats he has owned on the cover..a ketch. If I ever get down there I hope you will take me sailing, Stovie!” 8:01:08 AM 3/22/07 “I sailed on a friends boat for years until I got tired of it seriously interfering with my other outdoor interests. It was a blast, saw tons of sea life - whales, porpoises, seals, sun fish - caught lots of fish, saw lots of way cool places. Racing was even fun on occasion, but I didn't want to do it all the time. It was like backpacking, only on a boat. Have fun! last edited: 3/22/07 8:12:28 AM” 8:10:10 AM 3/22/07 “I'll try to get a boat back in the water next year, Mata. You know you have an open invitation.” 8:13:13 AM 3/22/07 Trolling For Sailors??? “ ”8:22:00 AM 3/22/07 “It is a Catalina 30 so plenty of room for a party! We are going to be keeping it a a Marina in old Saybrook right at the mouth of the CT river. And Marko if you show up dressed like that you will have ride in the dinghy! It's a good little tub for day sailing.” 12:33:07 PM 3/22/07 “I commissioned hundreds of Cat 30's in the late 70's early 80's. It's a great boat.” 1:15:05 PM 3/22/07 “HPM's dad has a yard full of boats right now. His wife won't join him when/ if he goes sailing; she can't swim.” 1:16:28 PM 3/22/07 “Catalinas are very popular in this area. We have a fairly large reservoir built by the Corps of Engineers in the 1950s. There aren't too many 30s, but there are a few... along with some 28s, a good number of 25s and a Flotilla of 22s.” 2:02:49 PM 3/22/07 “Good Sailing book: "Close to the Wind" by Pete Goss” 10:05:06 PM 3/22/07 “My favorite sailing book: Saga of a Wayward Sailor by Tristan Jones. Tristan Jones authored a number of good sailing books. Also Godforsaken Sea by Derek Lundy is pretty exciting. I've read lots of sailing books.” 10:50:31 PM 3/22/07 “ Crowded in the rank and narrow ship, — Housed on the wild sea with wild usages, — Whate'er in the inland dales the land conceals Of fair and exquisite, O! nothing, nothing, Do we behold of that in our rude voyage. from Wallenstein by Friedrich Schiller translation by S.T. Coleridge ” 11:13:29 PM 3/22/07 “I went on a sailing trip in the British Virgin Islands a few weeks back. My bus. partner was our captain. I kept thinking that I could learn to do this and come back for future trips. We had 4 couples on a 44' cat. I'm about to take step 1 and am buying a 14' sailboat. I'll piddle around on the lake here in town as I learn how to do this whole sailing thing. It should fit in my basement. I'll report back when I get it in had and post pics. I was going to wait until the fall when people were dumping their boats but a marina in another town has this one for $250. I'm not going to get something cheaper than that.” 12:14:19 PM 7/01/09 “good for you!! I am selling my sun fish..someone is looking at it tonight!!” 12:27:49 PM 7/01/09 “That's pretty similiar to what I'm getting but the hull is more open. I can be on the water 15 minutes after leaving my house, so hopefully I'll get some use out of it.” 12:28:56 PM 7/01/09 “i hope you do. mine is old and very heavy. to heavy for me :( I will stick to my sexy kayak!! tree is just happy that I am down to one boat hahaha went from 5 to 1 now he can park the car in the garage!” 12:35:29 PM 7/01/09 “A sailboat for $250? Is it a canoe?” 1:32:06 PM 7/01/09 “Lasers are the best for learning to sail, IMHO.” 1:41:42 PM 7/01/09 “ 1:45:36 PM 7/01/09 “It'll fit in my basement. You can get older 20'-22' type daysailors for $1500-$3000 right now, but then you'd also have to pay probably $1000 per year on slip fees. This is only step 1. Plus, with the open full I can take a kiddo or two once I learn what the hell I'm doing. As I progress, the bus. partner said we could go out on his and I could learn there too. His is a 48' in Pensacola. Obviously, I need an intermediate step. Heck, if I got to learn all of this and made a return to the BVI within 3 years I'd consider that pretty good.” 1:48:28 PM 7/01/09 “right on! I was considering a sunfish or a small cat when i was living in Florida. It looks like fun.” 2:10:22 PM 7/01/09 “You have to get a captain's license, I believe, to sail a boat that big.” 2:14:22 PM 7/01/09 “haha! if you get a captain's license, you can change your title from "Bad Mo Fo" to "Bad Mo Fo Captain"” 2:22:06 PM 7/01/09
