I sure hope so. Far too long have these evangelical usurpers been twisting Conservative ideals to support their intolerance and hate. The GOP made a deal with the devil in the '70s and '80s in embracing the religious right. Though it eventually catapulted them into power, the costs have been high, as many divisions in the party have been created in combating their perverted socio-religious agenda. I fervently pray that Stratfor is right about this. I'm tired of holding my nose when voting for the GOP:

Evangelicals and the GOP: A Clean Divorce Coming
March 22, 2007 19 20 GMT

By Bart Mongoven

[...]

evangelicals are frustrated by what they see as the Republicans' lack of progress toward evangelicals' goals in the past six years. From the evangelical perspective, little has changed. Roe v. Wade still stands, recognition of gay marriage is far closer to fruition now than six years ago and popular media are no less supportive of un-Christian lifestyles and models than in 2000. Even the larger evangelical victories are partial victories. The ban on partial birth abortion is facing challenges and a Supreme Court decision, and the ban on the use of federal funds for stem cell research does not ban stem cell research at all -- only the use of federal money. And states such as California and New Jersey (not to mention private foundations and donors) have gone ahead to fund stem cell research with their own money. Frustration among many evangelicals over a general lack of progress on key issues is at the root of the evangelical splintering.

[...]

If evangelicals brought only their positive attributes -- motivation and organization -- to the party, there would be no doubt as to the Republican Party's long-term direction. The catch, of course, is that the evangelical approach to politics is, well, evangelical. From the GOP's perspective, too many voters have come to see evangelicals as an intrusive group that wants to use the government to actively change how people live. Through their opposition to abortion, they are seen by many -- particularly liberal women -- as opponents of equality for women. Through their opposition to gay marriage, they are seen by many as anti-gay. People fear evangelicals not because they oppose various actions and behaviors but because they are seen as wanting to use the force of law to change people's behavior.

This conflict has moved to the center of the once-strong libertarian-social conservative alliance in the Republican Party. Those who adhere to the position that government should leave people alone -- both in their personal lives and their business dealings -- see evangelicals as intrusive and inherently in opposition to libertarianism.

[...]

the Republicans could see that their surest bet is to firm up their libertarian flank. They can do this by appealing to these voters directly and also by publicly breaking with evangelicals, the group that libertarians distrust and that alienates moderates in key constituencies. The bet that Republicans would be making is that, while they might lose the infrastructure support, get-out-the-vote efforts and volunteer labor, the evangelicals at the end of the day will not vote for any of the current Democrats.

On the political spectrum growth is the common thread. When and only when, neutral or negative growth, enters the equation, will you see sanity. And no, I am not communese.

THe guy above is actuall being kind of soft in his examples. He talked about the anti abortion crowd making women feel like they are against womens right and the anti gay marriage crowd as being against gays. I think the more damaging examples are the idiots who kill abortion doctors and the freaks with the "God Hates Fags" posters. That whole segment of the religious right just needs to disappear.

WASHINGTON — Public allegiance to the Republican Party has plunged during George W. Bush's presidency, as attitudes have edged away from some of the conservative values that fueled GOP political victories, a major survey has found.

The survey, by the nonpartisan Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, found a "dramatic shift" in political party identification since 2002, when Republicans and Democrats were at rough parity. Now, 50% of those surveyed identified with or leaned toward Democrats, whereas 35% aligned with Republicans.

What's more, the survey found, public attitudes are drifting toward Democrats' values: Support for government aid to the disadvantaged has grown since the mid-1990s, skepticism about the use of military force has increased and support for traditional family values has decreased.

The findings suggest that the challenges for the GOP reach beyond the unpopularity of the war in Iraq and Bush.

"Iraq has played a large part; the pushback on the Republican Party has to do with Bush, but there are other things going on here that Republicans will have to contend with," said Andrew Kohut, director of the Pew Center. "There is a difference in the landscape."

WOW Racisim is the belief that one race is superior to another....(definitions there Mr. Bigotmagnet.)

Sorry if reality hurts but face it other people on all sides of the racial divide have used the same questions and the same words. How come when someone makes the same comment others have made it is considered EVIL from the Conservatives but "Speaking the plain truth from libbies?" or is this the whole "some are more equal than others" from Animal Farm?

"Bigotmagnet". Clever. Now try and focus. the question was simple:

"Tell me. Since these "Blacks" are citizens and not "illegal wetbacks", how is your statement not obvious racism? I mean, in your mind of course.”

Shall I take from your non answer that you don't consider the use racist?

Fine. Then use it. Use the full word.

Bear...racisim is the belief that one race is superior to another like Rev Louis or any of the other race hustlers when they turn wacko on the Jews.

There is nothing inherently racists or bigoted in noting that in the last 40 years the Black Minority in this country has toed the line for the Democrat party. As a result there are many programs which have destroyed the black family and the education system to a point where they are now virtual slaves to the government.

The scary thing is as the Hipanic race begins to grow they will see their power as the "Head Whiners" drop. As soon as the Hispanic Vote gets more power than the Black vote they will be collectivly driven to Ft. Marcy park for a final night on the town.

I don't know about Hispanics being 'whiners' bud.

I live in the most prestigious neighborhood of an affluent town in the state with the highest per capita income in the US. My Hispanic wife doesn't seem to be looking for hand outs. We were remarking just the other day about how successful the Hispanic families are that live near us and how Hispanics seem to be working into the mainstream of the economy. Hell - my soon-to-be new boss is a Hispanic VP at a Fortune 100 company. I wonder if he got there by whining.

The Charleston Gazette: More crooks

Another GOP case

STEVEN Griles spent much of his career making it easier for out-of-state coal corporations to blast the majestic crests off mountains in West Virginia and elsewhere.

He was deputy chief of the U.S. Office of Surface mining during the Reagan-Bush administration in the 1980s. Then, while Republicans were out of power in the 1990s, he was a top lobbyist for the coal industry.

When the second President Bush gained the White House in 2001, Griles was named deputy secretary of the Interior Department. The lobbyist signed an agreement swearing he would abstain from coal issues — but he immediately broke the agreement. Gazette reporter Ken Ward Jr. revealed that he met with coal agents, and The Washington Post cited 32 such meetings to benefit his former clients.

Incredibly, his old lobbying firm paid Griles $568,000 while he was No. 2 at Interior. He tried to sabotage federal studies into the damage caused by mountaintop removal mining — ordering the researchers to focus instead on “streamlining coal mine permitting,” Ward reported.

Vanity Fair magazine summarized the situation in a report titled “Sale of the Wild.” It detailed West Virginia cases in which Griles blocked pollution actions against coal companies. It recounted how he ordered federal inspector Jack Spadaro to reverse his charges against a mining firm, and suspended Spadaro when he refused. The inspector said he met with Griles about the charges “and explained why I could not vacate them. He became enraged, his face got red, he was almost spitting. I knew then that this was a different kind of animal.” Spadaro appealed his suspension and won.

Now the different kind of animal has pleaded guilty to corruption in the scummy Abramoff mess — becoming the highest-ranking Bush administration official caught in the Washington lobbying scandal. In a federal court Friday, Griles admitted that he lied to Senate investigators about his personal links to GOP lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who fleeced millions from Indian tribes wanting government favors.

Griles is the ninth Republican Washington insider who committed political crimes in the sordid affair. Others found guilty include Abramoff himself; former Rep. Bob Ney, R-Ohio (now in the federal lockup at Morgantown); Neil Volz and William Heaton, both former Ney chiefs of staff; White House procurement chief David Safavian; Michael Scanlon and Tony Rudy, both former aides to Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas; and Interior Department official Roger Stillwell.

Other messes during the Bush administration:

Lewis “Scooter” Libby, top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of lying in a tangle related to falsified reasons for the Iraq war.

Former House Republican Leader DeLay still awaits a money-laundering trial in Texas.

Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham, R-Calif., got an eight-year prison term after newspapers helped expose his $2.4 million in bribes.

Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., quit Congress after disclosure of his sexual advances to teen-age male pages.

Griles is part of a long, disgusting parade.
