Kids or no kids???View Messages“Must have been a libby parent, eh "Stovey".......” 10:42:44 PM 9/27/07 “Sick, they should be shot!” 5:09:24 AM 9/30/07 Can you say 'Quiverfull'? “Some have commented that the world is no worse than it has always been. Maybe not quite yet, but I think a child born today could live to witness unbelievable horrors and possibly have no opportunity at all. I think some of those of us 50 years old or better might live to see bizarre happenings also. Even assuming all-out war doesn't consume us all, there are other big problems all centered around the fact that the world is already at least 5-times, some say 50 times beyond the sustainable carry capacity for large resource consumptive omnivores (people). Between the unfolding energy crunch (peak oil) and the possibility of severe climate change, food production and access to clean water cannot possibly be adequate in the coming decades for all the world's people. On the other hand, once the human die-off has taken place and the world starts to heal there will be much greater areas for outdoor recreation and the price of real estate will plummet. last edited: 10/01/07 3:02:25 AM” 3:11:13 AM 10/01/07 “This planet can handle 5 times the people on it now. It just can't handle it the same way we are doing it now. I'm glad that I am not as pessimistic as some people or I would grieve for my kids future. I think they will have a bright future. They will see men walk on mars. They will see a space elevator that will allow cheap access to the other side of the atmosphere. They will see colonization of the moon and on space stations. They will see, if not the eradication of most cancers and other diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, at least cures for them. They will see a new renaissance in art, literature, music and other creative arts as technology makes more mundane jobs automated freeing up time and creative genius. Life expectancy will skyrocket. Sure the richest will get the best care (possibly even downloading their brains into computers or android bodies - not sure if that will happen withing 50 years, but it will happen) but medical breakthroughs always eventually become available to the masses sooner or later. Their will be some new disease that will take its death toll on humanity, but I believe our children will solve it. Just like I believe the coming generations will solve many of our existing problems. The coming society will have to be a very open society since nearly everyone will have webcams, video phones, cams on street corners in the office, etc. It will be hard to keep secrets not just in personal life but in politics, government, etc. Sure their will be tough times, and we aren't even close to being beyond wars, but I have a much greater hope for our kids future than the original poster.” 5:44:00 AM 10/01/07 “give your kids the tools they need to survive and they will.” 3:52:06 PM 10/01/07 “Amen” 7:34:02 PM 10/01/07 “My sister did not want children from the get-go, and still doesn't. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. She's got her dogs and that's enough for her. I think it is a shame when people who don't want kids DO have them anyway, cuz its the kids who suffer.” 10:00:47 AM 10/02/07 “hyway....love your input!” 10:07:42 AM 10/08/07 “thank you. I spend a lot of time with my kids and their friends and I think they all will do great things.” 10:38:30 AM 10/08/07
