Not backpacking - car camping with the kids.

Always wanted to go, now I'm gonna.

Headed to Moab after work on Friday May 4, stay through the weekend, return to Denver late Sunday night.

Planning on doing a decent job exploring Arches and the surrounding area on Sat an Sun - leastways, the best i can given limited time and a daughter that won't enjoy deathmarches thru the desert.

Any suggestions for must see type places?

I have determined that the hard part about planning this will be deciding what will have to wait until the next trip.

I'm already planning on seeing the tourist type stuff in Arches, Devil's Courhouse, Delicate Arch and The Windows area and probably Klondike Bluffs, but what about outside the Park area - suggestions?

oldog - saw that on the map - thanks - will add to the list.

I'm thinking that this will be a good trip to kinda get the lay of the land and serve for planning a more extensive trip at another time.

Didn't do it, but sure wished I had: Fiery Furnace hike at Arches, which has its own fee.

Oh yeah, and time it out so you see a sunset from the southern end of Island in Sky (or whatever it's called) section of Canyonlands.

Most of these views are from short walks around Island of the Sky and Dead Horse Point State Park.

You shoulda seen the look on my face when I looked out and saw SNOW!

I'd heard thunder earlier in the morning adn could hear stuff hitting the tent, but I thought it was rain. Never would I have suspected that it was snowing!

The rain (and snow) made the desert really green and lots of things bloomed though - which was really cool.

Thanks - the rain and snow was a surprise for sure. I've got about a hunnert more pics to get 'fixed' and on webshots or somewhere for yall to gawk at.

Twas my first time in the desert and it wasn't at all like i expected, but it was a lot of fun. I found out enough about the places to be able to put together more of a 'trip' now.
