“Del. Police Warn of Phony ''Hit Man'' E-Mail Scams

State police in Delaware warn that if you get an e-mail from a hired assassin trying to extort money from you, it's all a scam.

The "hit man" e-mails first started cropping up in December, threatening in broken English to kill recipients unless they send $20,000 to call off the job.

Delaware state police corporal Jeff Oldham says if you get one, there's not really a contract on your life:

"It's a scam to attempt to obtain your personal identity so they can steal your identity and then obviously end up stealing money from you. Or they're attempting to have you send money to them."

He says since the e-mail first surfaced, troopers and the FBI have no evidence anyone is really being targeted for death. He says it's just another variation of ID theft.

Oldham says responding to the e-mail only confirms to the sender that there's a live account. His advice: just delete it, and report it to the FBI's Internet Crimes Complaint Center, http://www.ic3.gov/complaint.”

“LOL...the fun part is insensitive jokes (since I have never advocated one race over another) is they HURT NO BODY...threats on the other hand has an effect. If you tell someone "I am going to kill you" seems a bit stronger than "You (insert insult here)"
