Any Northern Exposure fans out there?

Just bought the last season of the Northern Exposure series....

I remember now why we stopped watching it the last season...(after they replaced "Dr. Joel Fleishman" with "Dr. Phil Capra"...)

Anyways, Thinkbubelz and I finally got through all of the episodes from the whole series....

The writing in the early seasons was superb... wasn't nearly as interesting through the last few seasons (and the change in the Maggie / Joel relationship pretty much killed the show.)

*************************

Anyways, I understand that they still hold "Moosefest" (albeit unofficially) in Roslyn, WA where they filmed the show...

Has anyone been to Roslyn and the surrounding areas? I'm wondering if it might make a nice trip?

Could beeee....

Yeah, that was a good show but it kinda crapped out at the end. Shame, really.

Loved that series, need to go there for the Moosefest..........it would make one helluva trip.......just finished watching "The Hunted" with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro......love the scenery and the wild places in that movie.......I also made he knife myself as a reminder and project...........

yeah, when the gag was that all of maggies boyfriends died it was much better. When Chris would do his on air ramblings that was cool. When Joel was a duck out of water, that was cool. Loved the early seasons.

Out of all of the seasons, it's apparent that they let the last season "go" in terms of character development and writing...

Sadly, they completely changed the dynamic between Joel & Maggie--their snap and energy from their annoyance with each other really gave the show good energy and "tension" through the earlier seasons.

I also think they should have ended the series after Rob Morrow left instead of dragging it on for more episodes... :-( Thinkbubelz & I could totally see the change in writing through the last few seasons...

One thing I heard, though is that the took out most of the original music (which you can kind of notice towards the last few seasons.) I guess it has to do with Universal's inability to get the licensing on the music that was used on the original show...

I also wish that they had included some cast interviews with the final DVD--if they create a special box set of all of the 6 seasons, they might include some interviews, but unfortunately, I won't be shelling out $100+ for another box set....

I think this was one of the best shows during the 90s--but with the advent of the internet and cell phones, it wouldn't really be possible for the story's premise to occur in present time...

Still love Chris' philosophical musings.... (I understand that there is a book out there somewhere that had a lot of his "sayings" from the show.--hard to find, but still available on Ebay and Amazon... :-)

Wow, I haven't thought of this show for a long time. I DID love it when it was on. Can't remember why I stopped watching it. What were the air dates/times? Must have been some kind of conflict for me.

I ate lunch with Northern exposure for a few years. Adam was by far my favorite character, followed by Walt. Two of the best episodes, imo: The one where Adam kidnapped Dr. Joel to check out his hypochondriac wife and the one where Walt ate the frozen mammoth carcass.

I still chuckle when I recall the episode where Joel went snook fishing and reeled in his Rabbi.

Being an Alaskan, the show irritated me at first with its lack of technical authenticity. But ya know, the more I watched it the more I loved it. The characters embodied what Alaska really is...a handful of quirky misfits in an awesome place. This thread may inspire me to look for a DVD set.

It fit many places in the Northwoods, but not enough drunks, barfights or incest to be real...and way too many teeth.

yup....part of the technical authenticity thing. But I miss the show anyway.

I love the show. One of the local pbs stations shows episodes at 7:00 p.m. during the week. Unfortunately, I don't have cable and the rabbit ears makes the view pretty snowy...but I watch it, anway.

I bought season 3 a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to take it over to my hair stylist so that she could see the "do" I wanted. It was from the Final Frontier episode. The one where the Japanese tourists come to Roslyn and plan to mate under the actitivy of the aurora borealis.

I got the hair cut, then realized it did not look quite like the other Japanese woman's "do," but then ya know I don't "look" like her, anyway.

My favorite is the one where they catapulted the piano. Don't remember the season.

Thinkbubelz & I travelled to Talkeetna in 2004 (just after I started posting here on TT)... I understand it was the city that they based Sicily on... Unfortunately, we only stayed for a short while because it was pouring rain that day and we really couldn't walk around much...

I'd really like to go to the actual shooting locations one day... just being out in the wilds of Alaska (Denali) made us realize how much we love the great outdoors.

I guess I am. Every winter I would get plenty of northern exposure, while ice fishing on White Bear Lake and Bald Eagle Lake. Tain't a sport for the timid!

A friend from HS moves from Portland to Anchorage today. I can see an Alaskan adventure 08 in my future. Talkeetna is on the way to Denali from his place. Guess I'll get to see all that stuff too. Can't wait.

I actually rented the first series the sometime last fall and watched it over and over again! Ed's funny. I think I have a bit of a crush on John Corbet's character.

Didn't get there today, but we will be hitting it tomorrow morning on our way back to Seattle! I'm excited about finally getting to see the city. I have all of the seasons (the last one was sadly not great-- they killed the show....) But the 1st 2 seasons remain my favorites.

It is/was playing in HD on Comcast and I re-watched a few episodes when I upgraded to HD cable.

Good show, I just don't watch TV series that much.

I think Moosefest died a few years ago. Anyone know for sure?

My wife and I just got done watching all six seasons and we will probably start over again in a few weeks.

The last season had a few good parts. I liked when Joel went "up river" and the last few minutes of the last episode were good.

Maggie and Chris... boo!

In an earlier episode someone told Maggie her fortune and it was that she would end up with a rugged outdoorsy type and that she would never be content with him. I guess they always knew they would put them together.

LO: @ sweetpea!

I love Northern Exposure. Man, I haven't seen an episode for years though. A couple of years ago during a visit to the Grand Canyon I saw a bull elk walking through the town where we were staying. That sucka was huge. Reminded me of a scene out of Nothern Exposure.
