What it takes.

“Well for the last 2 years I have been out of the mix as far as backpacking goes but I have to say that I have the feelings again to go backpacking again.Alot of the people here on TT knew that for many years I would do 40 to 52 bag nights a year but I had got burned out and it has taken along time for me to get out of this slump.One of the main reasons that has brought me out of this is all the cool people on TT.Without you sparking my fire again this would not happen.There are so many people here on TT that have a place in my heart that you are too many to name but you all know who you are and I just want to say that I am going to start hitting the trail again and as always try to make new friends along the way.

I tip my hat to all of you - you all mean so much to me most of all my wife and best friend SC / Free24.

Bring on the trails again I am ready.

Something happned to me at the 3 day trip to M.Cave that made me have deep warm feelings again.

And if you want to know the moment when I knew this?

I will tell ya.

The second night after I was already sleeping I woke up around 2 am or so and I got out of the tent and just looked up at all the stars and I took time to smell the air and to listen to sounds that I herd around me.I was awe struck almost to the point that I wanted to start getting lost in my own little world becuase it is the smallest things in life that we must remember are some of the best things that we will ever get to see and these things are free.After about 20 mins or so I got kind of cold and got back into my sleeping bag and fell asleep with the biggest smile on my face and at that point right before I fell back asleep I knew that being in the wild and backpacking was a deep inner part of my life that nothing could ever take away from me.

“I rarely mind getting up in the middle of the night to pee, for love of the night sky and little night noises. Even in the cold it doesn't bother me. I hate it in the rain though, always worry about stepping on a frog or toad. (I've done it before, barefoot!)”

There is nothing like waking up at 2AM, rolling over and seeing your female tent mate peeing in a gallon zip lock bag.”

“Never EVER. #1, I'd miss the bag, #2, I wouldn't have any excuse for wandering around outside in the middle of the night. As long as I have my little red pinchy light I'm good. I have to be able to keep a look out for squishy alive things in the trail.”
