Last week I visited 9 states with a buddy from college, did a lot of hiking and camping. Some very beautiful places down south on the Cumberland Plateau. It was a pleasure to explore. Hope you enjoy the pics, there are even some wildlife pics.

Nice photos. Glad you had a good time.

Little River canyon doesn't look like your idea of AL, does it?

Wish you could have hit Sipsey.

East TN is a really cool place.

I really liked the Ansel Adams photo. There was a Savage Gulf one a few shots prior I believe, that was really good. You're looking back at a huge chuck of rock cantilevering from the cliff with Bob standing on it. That gives it some scale I think.

Glad you enjoyed it. I have decided to do most of my hiking up on the Plateau for the next few months. I have been overlooking it too long.

I laughed when I saw the Piggly Wiggly sign. I reminded me of when Crazy Mike saw one when he was down here. That made his day.

Looks like a great trip. How long were you gone.

AL has some very pretty areas- Little River was great, though I wish there were more trails.

Garden of the Gods and Rimrock were really nice spots in southern Illinois.

Big South Fork is a favorite of mine, it's a hidden gem with tons of trails.

Many areas reminded me of places in PA, all the big rocks reminded me of the Allegheny Nat'l Forest.

It was great to see a different part of the country, for those of you who live down there, hope you all appreciate it.

I was gone for a week.

I wish Little River had trails too. You can't overnight in the gorge. I keep trying to put together a boulder hopping day trip there and never can seem to find the time.

I grew up in TN and hiked a LOT in the Smokies and the Plateau areas... I said that Central PA reminded me a lot of East TN and the Cumberland Plateau.

yeah that area is over looked by so many. I picked up the book Crash had on our trip last May. Hiking the Big South Fork. It is a good book with some backpacking loops included.
The JMT is one I would like to hike

It is after all only an arbitrary distinction between the Allegheny and Cumberland Plateaus and the Tiltrock Country/Ridge and Valley is the same. It's that higher country in VA/WV that breaks the continuity.

Although it may look very similar it sounds different to y'uns down there in y'alls land. When I first worked with a site in Chattanooga, after a bit I asked my site contact: "Isn't y'all plural already without adding the extra s?" They got back at me when I said I grew up just up the road (US 11, in Cortland, NY) and they said "You mean the Lee Highway?" No, they don't call it that in upstate NY.

I used to live on 11 in B'ham, AL. I'd never heard US11 called the Lee Highway.

I know it's called that from Chatta. up at least as far north as Staunton, VA. Then there's a Lee Hwy in Arlington that is or was US 29. OK, I got time to Google, mystery solved, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Highway so it wasn't on US 11 as far south as Birmingham.

US 11 is sometimes called Dixie Highway.
