Any Kelty Redwing 3100 Reviews?
Anyone here have any recommendations for or against the Kelty Redwing pack? I tried one on at REI and it fit nicely and there were plenty of pockets and such. I liked the size of the 2650 better but it didn't fit as well. I'm using it for weekend hikes or trips. I see a lot of conflicting reviews of Kelty products...any experience with qaulity versus other brands like Osprey, Marmot, TNF etc? Thanks.

Got one that I use for training, dayhiking, and various travel use. Carries well and has stood the test of time.

Suggest going to Sierra Trading Post and see if you can save a few bucks. They have them all the time.

Kelty will be a bit heavier than those other brands because they are built with less costly/heavier materials. They are generally very well built though. I have a Kelty pack and tent and have no complaints. If lightweight is your thing then look elsewhere. If well built gear on a budget is what you need then Kelty is a great option. I use the pack and tent on low mileage/high weight trips with my kids. I've had 50#+ in that pack with no problems.

i have a kelty redwing 6650 pack and love it. it is heavy, but has tons of pockets and holds lots. it's a little big, but i use it anyway for long trips.

i just bought a new kelty 3500 for women and like it. fits great. it doesn't have the pockets, because of the size, but i'm getting used to it. it is, however, made of the new lightweight stuff and is alot ligher. for the price of kelty, you can't beat it. i bought both my packs off sierra and saved alot of money.

That's just on basecamps or trips with the kids. On real trips I'm around 22#'s or so.

I have had 2 Kelty packs for a very long time, a Trekker and a Redwing. I like both. The quality and durability are first rate. But, they very well might be made in China by now...

Granted, they won't have the latest miracle materials or Ipod holder type fad gimmicks.

Both are on sale at Sierra Trading Post.

The Mrs. and I started using Kelty Illusions last summer and have about 15 nights on mine. The Dyneema fabric is really nice. The hemming on the external mesh pockets for water bottles is coming off and the mesh has a couple of holes. Aside from that, a good 3#, 3500 ci pack for $80. Kelty stuff is built to last, I think.
