Has anyone stayed here in the Smokies? It's a lodge on top of Mount LeConte that's only accessable via hiking. Was thinking it may be a fun hike in and out to do with my dad. How was it? Good experience? Worth it?

it's closed over winter time, and if they are not closed you'll even see Lamas. if you plan on staying there, you better book quick. Hard to get a spot. Great hike, and yes worth it. I didnt stay there because I hiked up during winter. There's a shelter right around the corner too.

I have only stayed at the shelter. The lodge is nice but expensive. It does include dinner and breakfast.
You will have to bring a few things with you. The cabins are heated and have double bed bunkbeds.

Been there, but did not stay in a cabin.

Mt. LeConte has rustic cabins for rent and a small lodge

The Lodge is to the left

Been there many a time, but have always stayed at the shelter. Water is available at the Lodge and the Game Room has always been available for backpackers.

Backpackers stay at the shelter. "Others" stay at the Lodge.

I have only heard good things about it. The same management firm that manages LeConte also manages Charit Lodge in BSF. It may be a lot easier to get a spot at Charit. I don't know, only guessing.

I do know that in early spring, Stokley (management firm, yes, the same Stokley's that founded the canned vegatables...later to acquire Van Camp's and in turn sell all to ConAgra), opens up the reservations. If you reserve a date, it seems that you have first dibs on the same date, ad infinitum. If you give up the date, it goes back into the pool.

Best thing you can do is contact them and get on the wait list.

A group of my friends and I go once a year.
I was up there about three weeks ago. They start taking reservation on October 1st and if you don't call within the first few days, you will not get a date. On the other hand, you can call up the reservations company and see if there has been any cancelations. If you call a week or two ahead, you may be able to catch a spot.

It is a great place to stay. The meals are always good. I think it is about $90 a night and that includs your meals and a bucket of hot water to wash up in. They do have standard toilets, heat and an outside water source.

One night is enought though.

Have stayed there. It is nice and rustic. You will see bears. The peach cobbler rocks.
