info on book

“I am looking for info on a book I read some 30 years ago or so. It is a young man's (I think a teenager) description of a hike along the continental divide. I recall he also wrote another book on some other hike, but I can't remember what route this was.

I have a vague recollection of some controversy with this, like maybe accussations he did not do all he said he did, but then I may be confusing things here. Any help would be appreciated.”

“There is Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins. His walk was from NY to New Orleans to Oregon.”

“Colin Fletcher is one of my favorite authors... but I don't remember any controversy surrounding his books.”
