“Gallon jug from Home Depot is the best deal. About $10 and for most people on this board that will last for years, LOL.

You'll pay a few dollars for just a few ounces if you buy the HEET.”

“Is there a difference in the additives in the methanol? It seem to me like I remember there being some difference in the denatured alcohol and in different brands. Maybe that is why some people prefer the HEET over plain "paint thinner"?”

Yes if you get the 190 proof (95% alcohol) stuff. Denatured alcohol is a lot cheaper though.”

“denatured is all I use in mine but the everclear causes hangovers when not used in the proper amounts, and destroys the stove when you get drunk and fall on it......”

“Denatured alcohol is 95% ethanol.
Everclear alcohol is 95% ethanol.
The difference is denatured also has 5% methanol, a poison, so it can be sold w/o alcohol tax. The Everclear has mostly water as the other 5% content.

So you end up paying less for the gallon of denatured than you do for a liter of Everclear - even though both are 95% ethanol. Gotta love taxes. And poison.”
