“At my daughter's suggestion I joined www.Facebook.com. It seemed like a good idea at the time. You click on your address book the people you think might want to join. Now I am getting e-mails from people whose address I had for other reasons than social, or from some TTers asking if I had contacted them through Facebook.

I am worried that they have appropriated my whole address book.

One of my friends (johnnywalker) e-mailed me to say he wouldn't join because the site seemed too invasive. I ought to have opened a virgin e-mail address for this.

Does anyone know if or how I could get out?”

“I joined a while ago to be on my a mailing list for my son's indy label's list. It gave me a list of everyone on my mailing list who was also on myspace and let me select which one's to go with. I think that must be the place you skipped over.

I don't think they'll send a second email to you email list.”

Is anyone on there but me? It is easy to send someone an invite in your entire address book but you have the option...it just doesn't do it automatically.”

“I changed my password, my security settings, went thru my pc and deleted everything I don't need, ran my spybot and anti-virus programs. Hopefully I fixed it.”

Thanks sunny...I don't leave for Honduras until 1/25. We fly in to San Pedor Sula and have to drive 2 hours on the bus in to the Central Mountains to Las Laja.”

“I have a facebook...My daughter set it up for me. I never really look at it. I went in the other day and started adding a bunch of people I thought wanted to add me...then I realized the little box on top said "people you may know" I was like well geez these people now probably think I am some sort of moron...I sure feel like one. I havent been back on since. I will stick with MySpace!!”

“I'm old school....still on "dial up" service so no MySpace or FaceBook for me....everything will upload/download too slow. Maybe it's a good thing. :o)”

“i used to have facebook but i deleted it after a couple of years, i felt that it was becoming too invasive and didn't like the idea of all my personal info being spread and sent everywhere.

i feel that facebook is becoming a bit shady and they have some really shady practices/ people working for them.

Mapes - I hafta one-up you on that. My aunt had a baby 40 years ago and gave her up for adoption. No one knew about it except for my mom, their parents, and my uncle (whom she married years later). The woman recently "found" us through Facebook. Now I have a first cousin I never knew about!!”
