Thanks for the invite. I'm down as a maybe, but I'm sure that once I tell the kids, it will be a sure thing!

I'm a go! My arrival time on Friday will be determined at a later date. We got a new family backpacking tent. All three kids have their own backpacks and the ex is moving to Chicago so I know I can take the kids that weekend. They'll be so excited when I tell them. :o)

Nimblefoot, Bring the big boy. Do you have a 42 year old son? Hmmmm? ;o)

Thanks for the invite any way.

Airfare actually looks really good ($235 US Air) but we'll be 3 weeks from moving date and broke as can be. I'm going to have to really try and make the 08 version of this.

I'll be on the JMT the entire month of August so I won't be able to make this. I'll ask Kat and see if she wants to go without me. The kids had a blast last year. I am betting she won't want to go without me, however.

Tb, if you guys want to fly in we're just 20 minutes from Metro and you're welcome to throw a bag down on our floor or pitch a tent in the backyard. We prolly can trade up our car for a van so you won't have to rent a car, too.

I bet airfare out of Charlotte is cheap since it's a hug town. I checked airfare out of ATL and it was 218 on US Air. Shockingly, one connection was in Charlotte though a 30 minute connection with kids in tow doesn't sound smart.

I just had to check airfare. I suspect I won't have a free $700 then but I had to see what the numbers were to just keep it alive in the back of my mind. I also checked a drive and it's 13 hrs. Ouch.

Northwest and Spirit are the cheapest carriers flying out of DTW usually.
It is a looooong drive. Prolly the only reason we haven't made it down there yet.
Sassafras

ATL is only 2 hrs from me and the airfare is much cheaper in certain situations such as flying direct to other hub cities. BHM airfare isn't too bad usually, but is about $130/ticket high on this. 3*130 is worth the drive if it means I don't have to spend the night before in a hotel.

Funny, if we can make it on this trip, we'll be headed to Michigan the same time as my mom. She'll be returning my niece and nephew to their mom and heading to her class reunion.

But don't tell her about this! ;P

I'm shocked that having USAir out of ATL is cheaper than CLT, but it's so. The mules and birchs on the same trip makes me really, really hope I'm not broke when this trip happens. I'd have an easier time taking Reece out of school for the beginning of 2nd grade than I would for Emma just starting k-garten.

Keep checking. My wife and two kids were able to book United on a flight out to Cali this past April for real cheap. They had a lay over in Chi town, but it wasn't a problem.

Good hunting.

Dayhiker, I now formally and front of these assembled TTers firmly place the monkey on your back.

I'm sure a capable and nimble minded fellow such as yourself can find a way to be there.
