“I'm so ready to hit the gorge! The weather has been gorgeous here. Any plans for the day hike(s)? The last time was great! The kids played in the water pools and then we hit the river for some rather chilly swimming and rock jumping.”

Anyway, I haven't planned any particular day hikes except that I think a trip to the rope swing is a must once again. I'd like to do something low miles and manageable for the kids. With my schedule recently, I may not actually get a chance to look at the map though until my drive down.”

I warn you though that it is difficult to find 39 even on this map. I believe 39 is also called Tunnel Ridge Road. On the map this road appears to intersect with KY 77 (the road the goes through Nada Tunnel) right at the tunnel. It does not. In fact, 39 is way on top of the ridge and goes over the tunnel.”

“Just FYI: My clan and I are coming in Friday night and camping at Koomer Ridge. We will try to stop by and say hi. I have some short easy hikes planned so if nothing else we will stop by the camp where everyone else is in the evenings to hang out. Stokley and youngins will also be camping at Koomer with us.

I have to agree...it has lots of info but getting through all the other junk is a pain.”

“Turn right on Rt.15 as if you are going to Koomer Ridge CG. About 5 miles up the hill..that's KY speak...you will come to a sharp right turn with a blocked off scenic pull off, at this point you are about a mile from Tunnel Ridge Road/FS39

Shortly after this there is a little store on the right then up the road a piece you will pass a "trailer church" and some sort of good ole boy social club entrance and a couple of houses with a bunch of junk and a slab woodpile on the left...at this point you are dang close.

Being that you are a coming out of a curve the turn will sneak up on you. Tunnel Ridge Road/FS39 is the concrete bridge on the left, Whittleton Arch trail is on the right...there are signs. If you can see the parkway on your left you have missed the turn.

Go to Gray's Arch parking and the area is on the left about a .25 mile past Gray's Arch parking.

“Exit 33 off of pkwy. Turn left. that dead ends into 15 turn right and follow it. Tunnel ridge will be on your left and there will be a bridge that crosses the pkwy. Then turns to gravel and that be the road. Yo bear”

“We originally planned to drive down tomorrow afternoon, but Jon has been scheduled for a shunt surgery tomorrow. (He starts his Interferon treatment on Monday.) So we will leave early on Friday morning which will have us arriving mid-day sometime.”
