I am voting for him, but I bet he has a better shot than any non mainstream democrat to win nomination.

You could always switch parties. After all there is no way he would even sniff the democrat nomination.

Does Paul take the standard Libertarian position on the Drug Wore?

Once he gets rolling he starts talking about all the executive agencies he'd scrap.  Promoting local control is all well and good until you consider all the crooks and sellouts in local and state government, LOL.

Speaking of local control, I hear segregated public schools have been making a comeback ----

Nice bull#&%!$ answer.

If you're okay with segregated schools, just say so.  Ever hear of schoolbusses?

Bull#&%!$ answer? Then you answer these questions?

so how far should they be bussed? If the city of Detroit has mostly minority schools and the suburbs are white, how long do you want your child to be on a bus? And that isn't just white into the black schools, how far away do you want to send your black child to go to school just so they can hang with a bunch of whities. How easy do you think it is to go to a PTA meeting or a teacher consultation about your child when the school is all the way across town? Not to mention if they are sick and you have to pick them up?

BTW, tilt, I was PTA president at a school with 55%-60% minority enrollment. Doesn't mean much, but just thought I'd point that out to you.

For those who are still clueless: Separate But Equal was struck down long ago.  What we get around here are the Whities (your word) who pull their kids out of public schools and then say they shouldn't have to support them with their property taxes.

Hell, they don't want other Whites living near them who don't make X amount yearly, so they move further and further into the country 'til they're jammed up against a National Forest, LOL     Then they have distance issues.

Travel time pales in comparison to the importance of having the next generation educated.

But that's not a priority in this country --- we'll just build more prisons.

The funny thing I see happening around here is that the Blacks and lower income Whites also flee the city for the suburbs and the Whities (again, your word) will have to move again.... and again.... Until they run out of places to run, eventually.   Then what?

well, tilt, they move back into the inner city, snap up all the 'rundown' buildings, fix em up, jack up property values, create 'exclusive' neighborhoods, very ecclectic, then the lower income families next generation gets rich, moves in and the process begins again....

Yep ----

Or the lower income folks are simply priced out of their old neighborhoods.

Or immigrants move in... legal or otherwise.

Or gated communities in this country can begin to resemble those in South America.  Not good.

Tilt, are you afraid to say "white" without having to use qualifiers. If you would just say what you honestly mean instead of hiding behind pc terms people would understand you better. I personally made the choice to put my kids in a school that was majority minority (oxymoron used on purpose). It was one of three year round schools that no one was mandated to attend. we did have a school that was our district school but I chose the year round program that was located in the "inner city". I left there, after 6 years, 1 year after my eldest child matriculated to middle school and my youngest was assigned to a different school (another year round) because of his special needs. the next year there was an opening in the 4th grade so we transferred my middle daughter to this other school to make life easier on us.

I tell you that to let you know that not everyone leaves a "black" school because they don't like blacks. Another thing, the difference between the two schools was astronomical and not because white kids are smarter than blacks. Its because the money spent at the "black" school was predominantly for remedial education such as tutoring non reading kids to read and bringing up basic knowledge skills that any 6 yo with caring parents should know but many of these kids didn't. Parent involvement was practically non-existent (which explains me being able to be PTA president). The "white" school had more people on the year book committee than the "black" school had as active members of the entire PTA.

It isn't always racism that makes for "white flight". Its just wanting an education system that serves your child's needs.

that was an

thanks for reminding me why I have Sarge on ignore.

My point is that it isn't being segregated that is bad, its lack of interest in your kids school that is bad. These kids and parents are being told by some that they can't get an education in the white man's school and by others that they can't get an education unless they are sent to a white man's school. When thats all you hear, then I guess you just assume you can't get an education so why care.

The way to fix the disparity between school success between whites and minorities is not to just stick them in a school based on meeting certain population quotas. You stick them in schools based on their educational needs. There is a movement for girls only classes and schools because people think girls will get a better education that way. Our school system has different special needs programs in different schools to meet the needs of that population (I don't know all the particulars, but Jason had to move schools so that he could be grouped with similar mobility and teachable levels. we have open enrollment schools that specializes in science and math, and an alternative school (not sure what they alternate about) and 3 year round schools that are open enrollment as well as districted schools that you must attend if you don't choose another option. There are plenty of options available for people who are not happy with their districted school. We have a high school just for kids who want a strict advanced educational experience ... no arts, music or sports.

Its pretty simple minded to say that the only reason people are stuck in segregated schools is that the white people are leaving them behind. Now if you say people are being left in schools that spend all their time on remedial learning because people who seek a better life for their kids are leaving them behind then I might listen to you.

Oh booooooy!

And just what is your exact support for this grand, hasty, full of shyt generalization?

For reference -- The "kids" from Detroit don't have to take a bus to get to a "white suburban school". All "they" have to do is walk across Baseline into my district. I'm sure how it rolls up here in D-Town, so I'll let ya have the flo.
laqtis

Laqtis, once again, mine is not a generalization. Its a statement learned from being PTA president in a 60% minority school that was 100% open choice (ie, no one was being forced to go there) as well as having my kids in 3 different public schools and 2 private schools. The example you site its your district, do your kids go to either school or are you just yapping stuff that someone told you was happening there?

I want argue with you if you tell me that your city or your county (however your municipality breaks down its school district) is drawing school zone lines for the express purpose of creating segregation. That is wrong. But I suspect that since most of those situations are quickly solved by court cases (at least in my neck of the woods) it is two different school systems. I could be wrong of course. I hear there is a lot of racism in the North.

My heart is with Ron Paul, but should he fall I could support Huckabee. I don't think I can support Romney and I definitely will not vote for Rudy. I don't want to vote for Hillary, so if it is Hillary versus Rudy I'll just not vote. I don't know which one I hate more.

I like Paul as a message, but his platform is pretty much what he doesn't think should be done on a federal level. I like most of his monetary positions as well as the no income tax thing, but the only way that will work is kill most all federal programs (an idea I like but isn't realistic) Unless you are writing a thesis on him you don't have any idea what he would do as a State governor or representative.
hyway

You're understanding. The fed gov has taken the states out of biz and have made them beg for the few morsels they return after the lobbyist have spread the instructions. the huge fed distracts from the concentration on local and state that is so badly needed. If you can't stand on your roof and see where 80% of your tax money is spent ,you need Dr. No. He is running for president really for only one reason - to cut back ther fed gov to where it represents 4.5% of the earths population, not 5i%.
