Backpqacking Glacier

“Me and a friend are going to Glacier NP for nine days in the beginning of Spetember. We're thinking about backpacking the Nyack Loop in West Glacier. Anyone out there backpack that Loop before? If so, any info, suggestions, etc would be helpful.”

“didn't do that loop, but I did the Highline Trail from Logan to Waterton and then headed west to Bowman Lake.

You'll love it no matter what you do up there. Biggest suggestion I can make for Glacier is to get a bigger memory card for your camera.”

“Yeah i recently spent a week in Sequoia and Yosemite and I came home with 1,000 photos. Planning on bringing 3GB. I hear alot about the Highline Trail - sounds like its probably some of the most spectalcular views in the Park. We are looking for 30-40 miles of remote backpacking and then we'll car camp in the park and day hike for a couple of days. Can't wait to get there.”

“My wife and I spent our honeymoon there. BP'd the Two Medicine area, day hiked and spent days driving around the area, stayed in polebridge.

Two bump tickets later were are bringing the kids out there this year. I wouldnt be surprised if that is where I live someday! Kalispell or Whitefish

we were there in mid august, perfect weather, water was getting low tho, and the wildflowers had almost made their exit. Make sure the lodges and stuff are still open in Sept. The "season" is short up there. Just a heads up, we were gonna go first week in June only to find out that most places arent open for business till June 11! Just check up on it.”

“right on - we've been checking and it looks like businesses start closing up for the season around mid-september, which is fine with us. i think that has more to do with the parks tourist season though - looks like snow isn't too likely then but, anything can happen. Looking forward to the tourists being long gone for the season and hoping going-to-the-sun road is still open at that time (sounds like that is an absolute must).”

“If that road closes on you and your in Polebridge, it's a LOOOOOONG drive back to the east side of the world.”

“NPS website says late October for the road closing - hopefully this isn't a freak storm kind of year.”

“The North Circle would be my choice. It's in the heart of the park, it's scenic all the way where the Nyack is in the trees alot.
