i like the teaching, but i would rather be teaching adults than a bunch of hyper elementary students. my 3 oclock kids on my day 1 schedule are horrible. i just look at this as putting in my time so that i can get experience to go towards getting a better job. i'd like to get a job with adults next, then after that i want to get a job in the states

Got me a new coach, gave Hines A LOT of moolah to keep doing his thing! Got a new quarterback coach. Kept our defensive coordinator Lebeau. And they shut big mouth Chad Johnson up every game we play them!

i have been impressed with the generosity of the koreans this weekend. this weekend i took a bus to wolchul-san national park, about an hour and a quarter bus ride away. when i got to the bus station in nearby yeongam, a young guy voluntarily served as my translator with the ticket counter. he found out for me that there was no bus to the park, and that i needed to take a taxi, as well as what time the last bus back to gwangju was. as i stepped out the door and was taking in the view of the park, i was just about to hail a taxi, when another young man asked where i was going. i told him cheongwhasa (i probably didnt spell that right). he told me to get in his minivan and he would take me there. i was glad to have saved the taxi money. upon arrival at the gate, he got a map for me, and altho im pretty sure there was a small fee for admission, i didnt have to pay. maybe its standard practice not to charge foreigners, maybe the guidebook was wrong.

after i was dropped off, a 40-ish man struck up a conversation with me, and gave me lots of good information, as well as his business card and an invitation to call him when i was in his town. turns out that he is the director of student affairs at gyeongju university, in the town of the same name, which is a very popular tourist destination with tons of cultural artifacts.

a tough climb up to a rest shelter near the iron bridge connecting two of wolchulsans massive spires, i make friends with a very amicable family. they invite me partake of lunch with them. my first bite was delicious: a little sausage, sticky rice, wrap it up in lettuce and pop it in your mouth. the next, not so much: some kind of fish, which tasted ok, but the most god-awful dipping sauce i had ever tasted. i couldve gotten it down and swallowed it, but for some reason koreans dont de-bone their fish, so i had this huge mouthful of awful i couldnt get down. one of the ladies took pity on me and gave me a trash bag to ease my difficulty, and then gave me some of the most horrible putrid water i have ever had. thats been my culinary experience over here. half the time: wow thats really good, half the time: OHMYGODTHATSTHEWORSTHINGEVER!

so today i go looking for a cord to connect my computer to my stereo. i pop in to the local electronics store, and thru basic english and pantomimes, convey to the shopkeeer what im after. he gives me a detailed description of how to use the thing (cmon buddy, im foreign, not daft, i can figure out how to plug things in), and then when i pull my wallet out, he refuses to take any money for it. curious. i guess he just wants to make a good impression on the foreigner. finally, when i get home later, my friend in busan, who i know from last year getting my certificate to teach, rings me up, and we make plans to get together next month.

all in all, a pretty good weekend, even if all i did today was bum around (a usual sunday in gwangju)

Sounds like a cool day Crash bang. I think you have the wrong impression though, those Koreans are handing over whatever you want becasue they're afraid of your ninja skills. I emailed them and filled them in before you left.
