“They took a 1900 foot fall on their descent from the summit. I don't know how high they were when they fell, but a ranger saw it. The Denverite was alive when they found him but died soon.

His name was subsequently attached to the mountain by other wealthy politicians of Northern European stock who probably never got within two thousand miles of the mountain as an exercise in hubris.

Also known as Bolshaya Gora (Большая Гора), meaning "big mountain," in Russian.
