Just wondering if anyone is interested in a pet friendly backcountry trip to WV. Either Dolly Sods or Cranberry the weekend of June 21-23. We were talking about it at TrailDays. For sure attenders...myself, Brad, Sherbear, Troy, Myron and Saidie the dog. Would anyone like to join us?

No prob. We were all just wanting to get out and thought WV would be a good trip. Most of the group who's going so far (Non-TT) went last time. Beautiful place

This trip is within the realm of posiibility from wilminton, nc. Probably around 8 - 9 hours. Doesn't leave much time for hiking. And I will have to bring my girls. It's their turn for me to take them somewhere. Would this be a hardcore trip or what?

This probably won't be too hardcore. Friday night will be car camping or a light 1-2 mile walk in as we won't get there until 10-11pm. Mileage will be low so it should be kid friendly. I'm working on a route/location right now. Stay tuned for details.

My daughters will probably be in Atlanta that weekend if they stay for a 2 week visit which they did last year. If its just 1 week then I will be driving down there to pick them up. So its looking about 50/50 that I'll be there. [whine] But its so far away. Can't we do something closer to Wilmington (and I don't mean Delaware)?[/whine]

Windigrrl's right about the dates. I didn't even notice. I'll take it as a snafu given the above quote.

Anyway, the new job's pretty much in the bag. Just waiting on the background check/DOT physical/drug screening to come back. Most weekends are off, but I won't know for sure until that week. If I'm a go then I'll probably get a rental so I can drag my dog along. Maybe my son as well since this is looking kid friendly.

We've decided on Cranberry rather than the Sods. Fridge, I know you know that area well, any suggestions? Friday we'd be getting there late like 10pm...so a good campsite a mile from the road? Then about an 8mi hike on Sat and 4-5 on Sun?

DIRECTIONs..................................

From Marlinton take US Route 219 north 7
miles to State Route 150, which is the Highland Scenic Highway. Turn left onto State Route 150 and drive approximately 9 miles to the Williams River Bridge turnoff, located on the left. Turn left at the stop sign onto Forest Road 86 and drive 1 mile. The campground is located on the right.

One possibility and an excellent loupe hike is Big Beechy Trail #207 down to Middle Fork Williams river Trail #271 and loupe back up an easy grade back to the vehicles. Another is Forks of Cranberry trail 245 down to #102 for a tenth of a mile then up North Fork cranberry trail #272 back to the Vehicles...............Any whooo there is plenty of water and plenty of simple fords so bring along your Crocks, sandles etc,...

Might think about also hanging your food or a bear proof container.
many other possibilities with an average 8 mile hike each day............

yo DUB e mail me and I will send you my PHONE # or send me yours........

A Couple of Questions
1. Is there a reason you're doing this Thursday through Saturday? I might be able to come down -- will know in about a week or so -- but would only have the weekend to work with.

2. Would we be able to camp somewhere the first night that's easy to find by dark? If I did come down, I don't think I'd get there until after dark...

It is Friday thru Sunday. If the dates are wrong I'll fix them now. This trip really isn't my trip but my friend's trip, she's done several TT trips and wanted me to post the trip here. I think she and her husband will be there Friday afternoon, I will not be there til Friday evening. Fridge will be there sometime on Friday. So Friday's hike will be an easy walk in for those of us arriving late.

Plan on meeting at the Tea Creak Trailhead. We've got some travelers from IN on this trip so we'll make the first day a short hike in, just enough to camp legally in the woods. Fridge and I will work out a route this weekend.

~Parking~
If we use Tea Creek C/G 4 parking, won't we charged as campers..??..Why not just stay at the C/G on day 1 @ $8.00 a site. Unless Fridge or Dub knows of a parking area.

I know of a trail head just off scenic route 150 just before the turn off to tea creek. This is the same Trail head we will take inand there is a BOG field within 1/2 mile of the trail head and a good place to meet at and first night camp. The exact location is take scenic route 150 off rt 39 heading North for some 10 miles , soon you will see a Bear sanctuary sign located onthe right side ,There is a gravel road here on the right, DO NOT TAKE THIS ROAD,look left acroos Scenic route 150 and you will see a dirt road taking you to the trail head apprx 1 tenth mile in. I will be driving a BLUE NISSAN 4 door truck. Take the trail here straight in approx 2 tenths mile on the right a wood post and the BIG BEECHY trail starts here. There ia a field here as well. I willbe camped in the wood line adjacent to the field. You should see or smell smoke. Wood smoke for some of you TTer's....

Trail head located approx 10 miles on the Left as you head North on Scenic Route 150. I drive a Nissan truck, BLUE 4 door and take this trai approx 2 tenths mile in start looking for the field on the right and you gots me..............

Send me your e mail addresses and i will send you my cell# and a map to get you from Route 39 scenic route 150 to the trail head.
