That would be a DARK blue Nissan four door truck y'all.” 7:06:45 PM 6/07/07 “Fridge, do you park on the right and hike in on the left side of Rt 150? WTF, I won't be there......but I have been there...............I think.” 7:10:56 PM 6/07/07 “MarKo the answer to your question is that it depends on what you have been nippin on and hittin on................If your nippin and hittin then you will surely not find us but iffin your just nippin then you may get there..............maybe and iffin your just hittin then you will surely think your there but will wake up and realize your still in Mary - Land.............” 7:27:29 PM 6/07/07 “That's a fack..............Jack!” 7:31:31 PM 6/07/07 “Is that the North South Trail that crosses with the Beechy Trail about a tenth of a mile west of the Scenic Highway? Or is it a phigmint of my imaginininination?” 7:36:26 PM 6/07/07 “Nope your lost,,,,,,,, The trails have changed in that area, remember county line trail was much longer in length than it is now and North South trail has changed as well............I have a current map and actually have all the Blow downs listed as well as of May 2007...........I have been there 4 times this year ............and planning on several more........” 8:04:37 PM 6/07/07 Alright “Google says 7 hours and change via Baltimore and Washington. Iffn I can get that Friday off, I'll do it...” 12:05:09 PM 6/08/07 “I have dang near an 11-hour drive. I think I'm heading out on Thursday to split up the drive. Sunday is gonna be one LONG day for me.” 3:13:58 PM 6/08/07 “it'll be worth it. takin' half day Friday, see you guys there.” 6:01:09 PM 6/08/07 “Shucks Fridgy, I haven't been to Cranberry in five years.” 6:10:35 PM 6/08/07 “dang MarkO Why don't you break your 5 year shut out and go............” 7:22:23 PM 6/08/07 Hot Diggity! I'm In! “Ok kiddies, I'll be there Friday afternoon sometime. Cranberry, here I come... (Methinks MarkO is being called out -- and this time he won't even need a heater...heh heh...) last edited: 6/11/07 10:14:40 AM” 10:13:14 AM 6/11/07 “Mmmmmmmm, cranberry juice and moonshine?? Sorry buttheads, I am committed June 23.” 10:57:08 AM 6/11/07 “I see a couple of WV trips but with the price of gas and a long drive from Tenn. it isn't feasible for a weekend trip. One of these days I will get up that way” 11:37:17 AM 6/11/07 “I'll bring ya some gas from 'Jersey...heh heh. $2.80 here and falling -- and we get full service :) Of course, the roads are completely falling apart because the state DOT is broke, but hey -- at least the gas is cheap. :D” 11:52:37 AM 6/11/07 “Full service = they won't let you pump your own and they are perfectly willing to spill gas on your tank if you are riding a motorcycle.” 1:34:19 PM 6/11/07 “If you're riding a motorcycle in New Jersey, you've probably got much bigger things to worry about than spilling a little gas on your tank -- like the severly overcrowded roadways here and the drivers who don't give a diddly-squat about motorcycle safety... IMHO, it's too dangerous to ride a motorcycle around here; a risk not worth taking.” 2:22:29 PM 6/11/07 “Try spilling "a little gas" on some dude's tank......ha ha ha!!!! That was a pet peeve of mine when I encountered that on the road. I had no problem with urban riding when I did ride............though I don't recommend it to others. If I do pick up the habit again I'll have no reason to ride in Jersey.” 3:02:23 PM 6/11/07 “What's going to be the mileage on this trip? I want to make sure I can do it before I go. Hey, I'm being realistic.” 9:18:25 PM 6/11/07 “Windigrrl/ the mileage is less than 1/2 mile friday from the Trail head...........Saturday approx 6 to 7 miles...........Sunday 2 to 3 miles. You gotta be there.........” 4:38:13 AM 6/12/07 “I can do that!!!!” 6:42:40 AM 6/12/07 “Hell, I could crawl that far!” 6:51:37 AM 6/12/07 “Good, then you won't mind carrying my pack for me! lol Hey, I'm still new to backpacking and I'm trying to be responsible. I don't want to sign up for a trip and then not be able to do it. I don't want to be the one that has to have my stuff carried for me because I bit off more than I can chew. I know my limits and they are around 10 miles a day. I try to stay within, or close those when I'm hiking with others, especially when I'm not very close to home. I'll push myself when I know I can have a plan B ready if I need it. last edited: 6/12/07 8:38:30 AM” 8:34:56 AM 6/12/07 “Fridgy will carry your stuff....” 8:36:48 AM 6/12/07 “My comfortable limits are about the same as yours windigrrl. I did 15m one day just to see if I could do it and I was forced to do 15m through snow another day when a friend got lost in Yellowstone for 3 days by himself. My max mileage is 8-10 on any trip I plan. We're keeping the first day light as we've got people coming from Jersey, Indiana, after work, etc. If you get there early setup camp and dayhike!” 9:55:53 AM 6/12/07 “The trail we will be taking will follow the Middle Fork of the Williams river. We will ford this river 2 times so bring some crocks, sandles etc,..... the water temps in the Cranberry even during the middle of summer is very cold typical mountain cold river water.............There will be some deep pools for some skinny dippin if needed. This is a bear sanctuary so keep in mind how you will cache your food. The drinking water supply will be everywhere, so no problem getting water. The Wilderness here can turn for the worse so bring warm clothing for the night and rain gear is essential. I will bring a big nylon Tarp if we get rain for the camp. If anyone thinks they may not get there in time to start out the hike on Saturday morning, e mail me at refrigeratorfridge@gmail.com and I will send you a map of the trails and highlight exactly where we will be camped friday and saturday night. I will be there no later than noon on Friday.” 4:52:36 PM 6/12/07 sleeping bag “Should I bring my primaloft 50 degree bag or my down 15 degree bag. What's the temp at night there around this time of year? I've never been there before, so would appreciate some advice.” 6:24:13 PM 6/14/07 “Country roads take me home, to the place I was born, West Virginia, Mountain Momma, take me home, take me home!” 6:42:57 PM 6/14/07 “windigrll, The temps at night will be high 40's to 50 at night. If it rains it will be much cooler. I will be taking a 35 degree bag and my wife will be taking her 15 degree Big Agnes. Of course you could sleep with...................................................MY 2 dogs. Just kidding.................I would go warm if I were you. If you need to borrow a Sleeping bag I have 10 or more in my arsenal with most from 0 to 35 degrees. They are clean . your more than welcome to borrow just let me know.” 7:36:11 PM 6/14/07 “Thanks Fridge. I've got a Big Agnes 15 degree bag that I really like, I just wasn't sure if that's the one I should bring, but it sounds like it is. I figure I can always sleep on top if it if I'm hot, but I usually sleep a little cold. As far as the dogs, I might be trying to win them over to my side. lol. I'm getting excited about this trip.” 8:46:19 PM 6/14/07 “This is a bear sanctuary so keep in mind how you will cache your food. Will hanging my food work, or should I bring a bear canister? I know, you are thinking this girl doesn't know anything. We don't have those problems here in the mid-west, heck we don't even really have any hills. lol” 2:20:04 PM 6/15/07 “I'm hanging mine or just sleeping with it in my tent as I've done in the past.” 3:14:14 PM 6/15/07 “I think I'm just going to POBB (Plain Ol' Bear Bag) it with my food and hang it from a tree branch at night; I'm old fashioned like that. That said, is there a reason to be concerned? I've never heard of Cranberry as having known problems with bears breaking into bear bags overnight -- at least not like Shenandoah, the NJ Appalachian Trail, or Adirondack High Peaks, anyway...” 4:08:17 PM 6/15/07 “Cranberry Glades is not Traveled much like the Shenandoah or the AT Trail sections . This is only a Bear sanctuary. I use a bear bag and hang my food stuff, I have had a bear incounter here inthe Cranberry I will show you the Scare on my legg, just remind me.............That said, I am ging to have another Margarita........ Windigrrl we will have so much activity and 2 dogs I don't think or plan on seeing a bear. We will se sign of bear, I can almost guarantee that. I will show you this as well.” 5:15:37 PM 6/15/07 “If we do see a bear we could have one big bbq...” 6:06:47 PM 6/15/07 “yea dub I will sht my britches iffin it stands up and winds you. Then drops down anly to advance due to the fact you have a big fat candy bar stuffed in you top pack. Then you suddenly yell out to try and scare the bear away and the big ole critter just keeps strolling your way dropping it's nose down low then stopping only to stand up and size you up..........then all of a sudden I look around and your dropping poop out your britches and pp down your leg and then in a momentent notice the Bear runs away...........” 7:29:12 PM 6/15/07 “seriously though Were we are camping the second night near Hell's for certain branch , you take the branch and follow up the Mt ,it forks go left and follow this fork until it forks again to the left. Go here and follow the branch headwaters and there you will find a BIG bear den. Also at the first fork in the Branch take the right branch and there are some cliffs there with some dens as well. hehehe......... we will see bear sign in this area, Lots of ole Apple trees and Persimmon trees and lots of candy bars too. last edited: 6/15/07 7:41:19 PM” 7:36:04 PM 6/15/07 “I"m bringing my camara. Seeing Dub so all those things will require pictues!” 7:43:25 PM 6/15/07 “yea.............” 8:09:06 PM 6/15/07 “Hey does anyone have the gps coordinates for where we are meeting at? If so, can ya send them to me??” 1:16:52 AM 6/17/07 Weather “Right now the weather is looking great. Fri - 79/55 partly cloudy Sat - 75/58 mostly sunny Sun - 77/58 mostly sunny Keep your fingers crossed” 2:00:55 AM 6/17/07 GPS “38 17 50 / 80 15 07” 5:47:39 AM 6/17/07 riverwarriorpi “Thanks! Are you going to make this trip? last edited: 6/17/07 12:44:42 PM” 12:43:32 PM 6/17/07 “I got the trail head zeroed in. Will be there sometime mid Friday. Any waypoint for the campsite on Sat?” 2:22:31 PM 6/17/07 “That's right ChinMusic has a new toy!” 5:18:26 PM 6/17/07 “A 50mpg new toy......” 5:23:06 PM 6/17/07 ““Thanks! Are you going to make this trip? a My car goes to the shop 2 day, so i'll know tomorrow......” 7:14:18 AM 6/18/07 “Oh, chill out people. The bears are no big deal. I live in New Jersey; we share our backyards with them (because we can't hunt them, but that's another political (read: fuego) story to be dealt with in another time and place) all the time. We've got a good number of people going on this trip. If we stay together as a group, the bears won't come anywhere near us.” 11:27:29 AM 6/18/07 “yea right Phantom ..........I bet you have one visit you.............I will put cash on it......” 6:07:27 PM 6/18/07 “Now now fridge, it's not fair if you place ham outside his tent” 8:17:49 PM 6/18/07 << back to WV Wilderness Trip 07 page
