I heard a program on NPR marking the 40th anniversary of Sgt Pepper's release.

1967 seems to have been an incredible year for music, the times were changing and a lot of the releases were excellent.

Besides Sgt Peppers, there was:

The Doors (self titled debut)
Velvet Underground (self titled debut - also White Light - White Heat)
The Jimi Hendrix Experience (debut) - Are You Experienced?
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Merel Haggard - Branded Man
Leonard Cohen - Songs of Leonard Cohen
Aretha Franklin: I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
Jefferson Airplane - Surrealistic Pillow

Also a personal favorite which was influenced by Sgt Pepper -

Phil Ochs, Pleasures of the Harbor

There was lots of other great stuff (by the Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, the Kinks, Dylan, Pink Floyd, Otis Redding and so on), but these are albums that for me still stand as great albums and land marks. For most (except the Beatles), the albums I picked stand out as one of the very best by the artist.

What would you nominate, or second if already nominated?

Otis Redding was the man...................he died that year at age 24(?)

There were a lot of good artists just gettin' outta the gate in '67.
Steve Miller Band with Boz Scaggs
Jeff Beck Group introducing Rod Stewart
Those guys were real edgy and raw well before their skid to Popdom.........not that Jeff Beck ever really did.
Lulu stole my teenage heart in those days.
Wow, girls with big hair and short dresses!

Jackstraw probably will have much to say of the Greatful Dead in 1967.

I was about to throw out a little self-deprecating humor and caught myself just in time.

1967 was just a little 'before my time'.... but I made up for it later, *G*.  I remember my grandmother gave me an Archies LP --- I took it back and swapped it for Hey Jude. That was a wake-up.  By 1970 it was Abbey Road and Led Zeppelin.  I do have to put in a strong second for Surrealistic Pillow during my 'catching up phase'.

I don't think Lou Reed surfaced in this part of the world for another ten years.

Music
Bring Back the good old days when everything goes and try anything. Music is my life and always has been. Forget about the hard times now and put on your headphones and smoke a joint.Go back to reality. Ha Ha! I want to be a kid again and jam and get back to nature. You?
