Snakes and Storms: OLP TR w/ picsView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 8 of 8 messages posted.
“On Saturday I decided to do a 22 mile dayhike on the Old Loggers Path, by using the S & NY Trail as a cross connector. I love the OLP, it's a fun trail with some great scenery- not too hard, or easy. It was a warm, muggy day, but the bugs weren't bad. The trail was pretty crowded, i think I saw more girls on the trail than guys. Rock Run is awesome with deep pools and cascades and the vistas were great as the distant mountains disappeared into the haze. As I reached one vista along a rock outcrop, I heard a loud rattle, a snake was underneath a boulder right along the trail. A gave it a wide berth only to run into another snake!! It was also mad, and slithered under a boulder. Close call. As I descended into Long Run, a thunderstorm blew by and downpours began as I reached Pleasant Stream- a crystal clear trout stream. The rain was nice. I hiked up the S & NY Trail and did some bushwhacking to explore this great stream. Awesome day on the trail. http://community.webshots.com/album/559211318fGYMmY?vhost=community” 9:31:42 AM 5/28/07 “awesome trip report! Nice photos. That's one huge timber rattler! dang, 22 mile day! I could use one of those. Hey Jeff, you interested in doing the two day event on the BFT next week? last edited: 5/28/07 9:53:54 AM” 9:53:03 AM 5/28/07 “I'd like to get out next weekend, BFT again? That snake was really ticked off, it's been a couple of years since one of those took me by surprise.” 10:00:34 AM 5/28/07 “Those photos of deep pools make me want to crawl right in that water. How big was the snake?” 6:38:29 PM 5/28/07 Ghost in the Pool!!! “Hey!! Check out the ghost in the Deep Pool pic!! Creepy>>>>> See ya later. Randall” 7:42:45 PM 5/28/07 “Nice report and pictures, especially the rattlesnake picture.” 7:00:14 AM 5/29/07 “I guess if I can't tell which rattlesnake you are talking about in the pictures, it is a good thing I did not have to choose while actually on the trail. Double vision of beautiful scenery might be pleasant at times, but it is nice to know where the real hazards are.” 7:06:15 AM 5/29/07 “The snake was pretty big, but I don't know how long.” 7:50:08 AM 5/29/07
