The Trips Page is Dead

On the album cover of Sgt. Pepper it is rumored that it is a funeral for the trips page.

Other clues include the song "I'm so Tired" on the White Album, where John says, The trips page, miss it, miss it, miss it.”

“I just posted a link on the trips page for some volunteering trail maintenance trips upcoming in the Sierra.

The High Sierra Volunteer Trail Crew is a good group. I've been going on their trips for the past 4 years.


Their Edison Lake/Florence lakes trips, for example, are near the John Nuir Wilderness and Ansel Adams Wilderness areas. Nothing like spending a week up working some trails to get assist in getting to know the area for future hike planning.”

“the death of the trips page - IMO its a side effect of the general polarization of the forum members due to the spread of the fuego crap over the rest of the forum - as a result there are many more pople who don't want to hike with at least one other forum member - as a result their trips are private or arranged by other methods and they don't sign up on public trips”

I've seen trips go begging for sign ups. My opinion, for what it's worth, is the trips offered have become buttkicking, hard party deals. I have no complaint about that, but I am not about to crash someones masochistic buttkicker when what I want is a lazy stroll. No fun for me, no fun for them. I have posted several attempts at the more moderate trips. They have gotten lots of reads, but few sign ups. Yeah my eyes gave out and I had to back out of the last one, I admit that. But still.

What are people looking for when they complain about a dearth of trips?”

In addition, I'll add that hosting can some times be a real pain in the ass. I've been lucky that TT trips were always well-planned events, with very little, if any, problems. Also, I'm pretty confident that I've hiked with a few of the trolls around here, and just never knew it/could prove it -- and that's not even a real big deal. I've been involved in few diverse groups; I've never witnessed anything else, but great times being shared.

If people are shunning away from hosting trips( or going on them), based solely on the possibility of encountering a "troll", it could be be a loss.

Is there really any account of a "TT troll" showing up and hosing a trip?”

“I've hosted a trip to the Linville Gorge every January for the last 7 years or maybe 8 but anyways I actually got two trips in this year to this area right before it caught on fire.

I would like to plan a trip or be involved in planning a trip mid July somewhere in the Southeast. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Some places I have considered: Roan Highlands, Shining Rock, Joyce Kilmer area and Lost Cove. All of theses place are in NC and TN.

“I've noticed that a lot of trips have been made private for the sole reason that either the trip's host or someone invited to the trip was afraid of being harassed by a few people he/she might not get along with.

I'm not going to drop any names, but anyone who's actually been talking to other people knows that there's a lot more drama going on between people here than the messages posted suggest.

It's really a shame if you ask me. I used to be able to pull up the trips page on any given Wednesday and be able to find a nearby trip (as in less than 3 hours drive away) to join for the weekend. And I live in New Jersey of all places. Now, all I see is Tracy Ridge in western PA and a West Virginia trip...”
