jimmy san, guinea pigs dont breed as easily as rabbits...

believe me. it takes 90 days for them to give birth, while rabbits take on 30 days for a pregnancy. However, gp's are born able to fend for themselves from the start with only a couple days of nursing. They have 3-4 babies at a time and often die giving birth. A good doe rabbit can give 6-8 babies at a time.

They leave the fur on too. Yummy.
Never tried it myself Jimmy, but I know how hard it is to skin a squirrel (and they're considerably bigger), and I know that in S. America they just cook them up fuzzy.
I figured you might have been trolling just a little bit.

Speaking of half shells....

how easy is it to raise and butcher armadillos?

I understand they can be tasty if the vehicle that ran over them was something less than a semi...

Armadillos may be edible, but they are also widespread carriers of leprosy. I wouldn't recommend eating them.

tb - I think you mentioned reading the latest Charles Frazier book "Thirteen Moons." How about the part where he talks about the guy biting the head off the squirrel (it was already cooked) and rolling it around in his mouth until the brains were sucked out and then spitting out a bare skull. Nice imagery fo sho.

That may be how you eat them, but it's not how I eat them. I skip that part of the crawdad anatomy. Then again, I don't eat oysters or the roe from a lobster.

It's not uncommon to hear people of my parents and grandparents generations talk about squirrel brains and scrambled eggs for breakfast.

On my dads side they were definitely backwoods, and had no issues with eating native vermin, but I don't recall anything ever mentioned about squirrel brains.. You would think that there wouldn't be enough for a meal? What are they, just bigger than a walnut?

The baby bunnies are eatting regular rabbit food now! No sign of the runs. I put the cage on the grass every day and let them graze some while it is shady and cool enough.

I found the hamster, put her back in her cage, she got out again, this time I put her back in her old cage and took her favorite toy away - she was using it to escape!
She gave me the most pissed off look...LOL...

That's great news that you found the hamster! She's quite an escape artist to use a toy to get out, but I knew she was a special little hamster. I hope she doesn't pout in her cage now. LOL...

I hope you didn't have to take the wheel away. She loves that so I can see why she'd be upset if that's gone.

yes it was the wheel. :(

I have to figure out how to keep the cover secured on the new bin cage, then she can have it back.

That bunny with the pancake on it's head is the same kind we have.

Hey Spirit, do you give your rabbit toys? Ours go nuts for empty toilet paper tubes.

Sass, my rex has a big plastic ring rattle that he came with and loves. He wont let anyone have it, he pouts if you take it away to clean. He picks it up and runs around all over the place with it. He likes to play tug o war with it and if you ignore him when he wants to play he makes this odd barking noise at you and thumps the bottom of his cage. I've tried other toys but he loves that one.
