“My wife and kids are out of town this particular weekend so I'm looking to have some fun. The last time I did something like this, Karo came along and we had a good time. Some company would be appreciated and welcome !

“Never mind it isn't THIS weekend but THAT weekend!”

“My wife is at the beach that weekend and I have the kids. I've been trying to figure out a way for childcare for baby Addie and then take the 2 bigger ones to the Smokies. It seems that all of the obvious caregivers are tied up, so I'll probably be here that weekend, but if I can find a way, then this might be just the ticket.”

I was going to plan a paddling trip but decided to go hiking instead. I always throw in the bike ride at Cades Cove because it's something that I like to do.”

“I misread. I thought this was a goofing off at the Cove trip. Nevermind. No way little Reece and Emma could hike 10 miles. Looks like I need to read slow enough to actually comprehend what I'm seeing. Crap!”

“In the back of my mind, it seems like I had something planned for that weekend, but don't see anything on the calendar.

What about campsite 17 on Friday night? What time are you getting here?”

“What's the skinny on the Cades Cove loop? Distance, terrain?

Travel and gas cost makes this look unrealistic for me but I'd like the info anyway just in case.”

“11 miles. They close the road on Wed and Sat to car traffic until 10 a.m. The terrain is gently rolling hills. It's on the transition between the valley bottom and the mountains above. There are 2 cut throughs that allow for maybe a 5 and 8 mile loop. Those distances are guesses.”

“Dayhiker is close enough for government work.

I have a fundraiser/dinner function on that Saturday evening, but will be up for camping Friday and lunch in Townsend.

I suggest we go to Dead Beat Pete's.”

“There's an outside chance I could make this. I should know by early next week.

They have bike rentals at the Cove don't they? I have a mountain bike but it's been so long since I've ridden it, the tires may be dry-rotted.

As of now, I have no idea what time I'll get to Townsend on Friday.

Chili, what did you have in mind for Friday night at campsite #17? Which way did you want to hike in from?”

“Hey Chili...I just remembered...I've been to that campsite before with Dayhiker.”

“Hey Chili...if it's just you and me then I can skip the bike ride Saturday morning and we can take our time hiking outta the woods that morning. Lunch in Townsend would be good, and then I'll head on up to Newfound Gap. You can wait til later this week to let me know what your plans are. I'm off work this Friday so I can get up there anytime.”

“I am giving some thought to going to the Roan Mtn Rhodenderon Festival on Saturday or Sunday. I will get my weekend plans straightened out today or tomorrow and let you know.”

“What is the arrival plan? It looks like I could make the trip to CS17 on Friday and/or lunch on Sat.

I am swamped at work and any of the out of town trips I want to make would be a lot more effort than I think I can muster.

I think NGB and I will just go tubing Saturday. I would like to make the festival in Red Boiling Springs, but I would probably get back to Knoxville more tired than I am now.”

I've been seeing a personal trainer lately and my body is like a wet noodle. I think I'll take it a little bit easy this weekend but I will definitely be in the area.

“I'm not sure if Chili will get online today. He has a busy day. But I am pretty sure the plan is to meet you for lunch Saturday. Do you have his phone number? If not, email me and I will give it to you so you can call him and confirm. Or email me yours and I will pass it along.”
