Missing AT thru-hiker

Hey folks,

Hope you don't mind this showing up here on P-Net. Been a while since I posted, this isn't necessarily a great way to re-introduce myself.

Anyways:

My partner's son (solo thru-hiker) has been out of touch for much longer than usual. He should have checked in prior to June 5, but nobody has heard from him since June 1. His name is Gregg Baird (trail name Tennessee Jed). I've posted a link to a recent photo down below. Gregg is 6'5 and wears size 14 shoes (should be easy to remember based on his appearance). I'm hoping you can pass this on to any hikers you may know, local outfitters, and anyone else you deem appropriate. Gregg's dad, Phil Whitfield, feels like he's probably alright, but we're concerned over his lack of contact as it is highly unusual for Gregg to be out of touch so long.

We know he was in or near Glasgow on June 2nd based on a small credit card transaction (apparently for food).

If anyone happens to see him (or may have seen him recently), please post back here and / or email me for phone numbers and further discussion.

Thank you so much for your help.

Normally I would see something like this and assume he was just off having a good time and didn't call. But after I went to the Anime Convention with my daughter a few weeks back there was someone posting on that forum about someone missing. Turns out that on the way home he committed suicide. So I think I will reserve judgement this time and hope he shows up safe and sound.

Gotta admit...they waited from 5 June to the 12th before getting worried enough to push for finding him...had he been ill or injured he could have been in serious jeopardy....

he's hikin the AT - you wouldn't expect a daily or maybe even a weekly check in.

OPIE - I read and reread the partner thing. It could mean partner in the context you took it or it could mean business partner. Either way, the anime convention is a much bigger deal.

his hiking partner, ya big dummies. Just to give dayhiker some ammo, I cosplayed a Shinigami from Death Note the whole time I was there.

Typical scene at the anime convention:

violin

All he needs is a big "3" shaved on his back ---

Maybe some Support Garments...

HyWay, what ever that is did it require you wearing a skirt?

Something tells me that tickling Divinity would result in a "Woo Hoo!!!".

This is me as a shinigami:

I dressed in my grim reaper costume and my daughter gave me an Apple and told me I was a shinigami from death note (gods of death, who love apples).

But you also get to see stuff like this at anime conventions:

Most of the girls at Animazement were college girls. If I were young and single what I would like best about that is that they are cute college girls who are staying in the same hotel as the convention and their rooms are usually well stocked with alcohol.

"co-splaying"?

Splaying, what?

There is a heap of Pokemon cards somewhere in my house.
I wonder if they are worth less than their purchase price or just worthless.
Actually, the boys had a lot of good fun with that stuff and played for hours with them.

We have a huge plastic container of LEGO parts from that stage of life.
That stuff is going to a younger generation of cousins who are now old enough to not try and eat them.

pokemon cards are better than that stupid Pog craze before it lol.

I can't swing a dead cat in my house without hitting some kind of pokemon, dragonballz, neopet, etc card. Stacks and stacks of them. I don't even bother asking if they are the valuable ones anymore when I am cleaning up. If they are on the floor they go in the trash :).

My sons thing is that when I bring the laptop home he'll google all of these characters and then hit print and it'll print back at the office since all our printers have IP addresses. He thinks that's pretty cool. Then, he'll cut out the characters and leave the remaining bits of paper wherever they fall at home. The whole process is a big hit because once he prints it he wants to you to drop what you're doing and go get the printout. Uh, if you want it now why didn't you print it from mom's computer to that printer right there beside you?

My daughter used to use sculpey clay to make her own pokemon figures. Either that or she would draw them by the hundreds. Now she is in to more 'mature' anime and manga like Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note :) She draws those characters endlessly all day long.
