“Made from natural sugar cane alcohol, Ecoflame is a cooking fuel that burns cleaner, hotter and more efficiently than petroluem-based fuels, we're told. Certified under Canada's Environmental Choice Program, it is non-toxic, non-explosive, has no harmful emissions, is safe for use indoors and outdoors and is smokeless and odor free. ![]() Researchers at Saint Louis University in Missouri have developed a fuel cell battery that runs on virtually any sugar source -- from soft drinks to tree sap -- and has the potential to operate three to four times longer on a single charge than conventional lithium ion batteries. ” 8:26:00 PM 6/15/07 “Hi Tango !” 8:40:05 PM 6/15/07 “If I catch anyone using my 15-year-old rum to cook their dinner, the repercussions will be Biblical! But if those batteries live up their PR..... WAYCOOL! Â Pour that Thinkpad another Cuba Libre --” 8:48:56 PM 6/15/07 “Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, drinking alcohol or grain alcohol, is a flammable, colorless, slightly toxic chemical compound with a distinctive perfume-like odor, and is best known as the alcohol found in alcoholic beverages. In common usage, it is often referred to simply as alcohol. I would not quite swallow the PR claims. It's alcohol and will burn at a lower temp than most oil based fuels. Not sure if it will even be legal in the U.S. as the alcohol doesn't seem to have any additives to keep drunks from drinking it and no taxes being paid. http://www.ecogel.com/EmergencyKit.html This looks interresting. last edited: 6/15/07 8:52:49 PM” 8:49:40 PM 6/15/07 “pour me a bottle of that there squeeze.... I tried to find some sterno liquid to use in an alky stove and couldn't track it down. All I could find was the gelled stuff. I suspect the ecoflame is a similar product. last edited: 6/15/07 9:13:20 PM” 9:10:11 PM 6/15/07 “Oh yeah... 'Squeeze'... the libation of choice for Mr. Jackson, former resident of Piedmont, Arizona and the elder survivor of Andromeda.” 11:17:17 PM 6/15/07 Ramblinrev “are you talking about the canned sterno? is there another product of gelled alcy?” 7:05:44 AM 6/16/07 “Yes I was referring to the canned sterno which is gelled if I understand correctly. I used to be able to get a liquid sterno for chaffing dishes where the burners had wicks, but I couldn't track it down. The ecoflame product which opened this thread would seem to me to be a very similar product to the canned sterno.” 7:24:58 AM 6/16/07
