“I finally saw an episode of Man vs Wild. Happened to be the Scottish highland one. I must say I was unimpressed but that was mostly my own stuff. To jump into a peat bog in cold weather just for the sheer heck of it seems a tad bit unhinged.”

i mean, nobody complains on the cooking shows when julia childs shows you how to put together a delicious casserole, places it in the oven, and pulls out a fully baked one 2 seconds later. the point is theyre showing you what to do. no need to risk life and limb. but he shouldve been honest about it, to maintain credibility”

It was interesting but how many people have time to go hang out with the local survivor experts. He is out there for a week or longer to learn about the area from them. all in all still a good show.

“Why can't there just be a backpacking show about normal backpacking and not about how outrageous we can make each episode. Seriously, how many of us has ever made a rope bridge out of necessity when backpacking (and thats not even outrageous)? I remember a series I watched a few years ago, trailside or something like that, where the guy just went backpacking. Spectacular places for sure, but he didn't kill a bear, or make a canoe out of otter skin, he just went backpacking. I liked it.”

“i love MvW and i think bear is a cool dude. the show is very entertaining. i watched him rap off of a 60' cliff using two strands of para-cord on a hip belay. he was my hero from that day forward. sure it's a production and i suspect a lot of the stuff is staged... but this is entertainment and as far as entertainment is concerned it's top-notch in my book. there is precious little else on TV that i can relate to. at least this is fun for me to watch and the content speaks to me.”

“I think it was Men Journal that had a great interview with Les Stroud last month. It becmae a compare and contrast inevitably but was interesting as all heck. He didnt bad mouth Bear but saw things from a different perspective, as he lives it or has. He spent six months with his new wife living with no modern amenities (no steel tools stone only) and has devoted his life to the study of survival for the last 8 years.

Bear is entertaining as all get out, but IMO reckless. He's got balls, undeniable big giant brass ones. But I dont think survival is all about balls.”

“BOULDER — A cyclist in Boulder County was injured after a run-in, literally, with a bear.

Tim Egan, 53, was riding on Old Stage Road Tuesday afternoon when suddenly a bear appeared in front of him. Egan hit the bear and ended up skidding across the road.

"This bear looked at me with a look of terror on his face and sort of made a noise," said Egan. "I looked at him with a look of terror and we went, 'aaaahhhhh.'"

He cracked some ribs, suffered cuts on his head and had road rash. Egan said he and the bike flipped and flew over the bear, hitting the pavement hard.

The bear ran away after the accident when a deer appeared.

Egan's nephew ran to help the injured cyclist.

"When I tell people, they say 'Right, are you kidding me, who hits a bear?'"

Egan estimated he was going about 45 miles per hour at impact. He said the bear was about 6 feet tall and probably weighed 500 pounds.

His bike was OK so he got back on it and pedaled to the hospital.

Egan said he was relieved his kidneys weren't damaged because he plans to donate one to his sister later this year.

The accident was the second involving a bear and cyclist in Left Hand Canyon in the past two years. A woman in the Boulder Triathlon ran into a bear in the same area last year.
