Although strictly speakign they are in the same family, HSV-1 and HSV-2 are pretty much the same virus. We associate HSV-1 with "herpes simplex" but people can get mouth sores from HSV-2 and genital sores from HSV-1. It all has to do with how the virus was contracted. Valtrex is a wonder-drug for suffers of herpes. It works by suppressing a protein the virus needs to reproduce. For genital herpes the drug is taken every day. For mouth sores (deemed less bad I guess) the pills are taken in a large dose during a single day. It's a "magic" drug and if you suffer from either type of herpes you should ask your doctor about it.

it's sad that there is so much social stigma associated with hsv-2 yet hsv-1 is far more socially acceptable being called "herpes simplex" or "fever blisters". it doesn't matter that someone with "herpes simplex" or gentile herpes could have hsv-1 or hsv-2... people are cruel, often not very well informed, frequently just dumb, and generally apathetic.

if you suffer from either be careful and not touch your eyes during an outbreak. you can contract the lesions on your cornea and the scarring will blind you. this is especially true with kids who need help being reminded to wash their hands, etc.

the disease is in 50-80% of the adult population of the USA.

ok so maybe it wasn't herpes. Maybe it was slurpes instead? You know kinda like herpes that are contracted from swimming in rotten fish water or something...

I know! It's caused by swimming and drinking at the same time! That's it! Ya!

hey in california when the river water gets warm and low, you had to make sure you didnt stay in the water longer then 10 minutes at a time and to come out and towel/brush off because tehre was a little critter that would tend to get under your skin and cause something like what you all are describing. For the life of me I can't remember what it was called but perhaps that is what it is?
