I wouldnt mind a thoughtful integration of Vbulletin

vbulletin sucks and would be just like backpacker.com i like the way this site has a unique approach to forums letting you say all forum topics at once rather than browse categories.

Now that the board is balanced politically, we need to have it balanced religiously. We need some more of the muslim backpackers to step up as a main party and more wiccan's and other smaller religions. That way we can fill the Fuego forum and cover both politics and religion. I'll speerheard the Christian sect, CONVERT HEATHENS or face God's judgement at the end of our ICBM's!!!

vbulletin isn't bad, but I don't think it would lend itself well to the trips page where you have multiple threads within trips.

For example, HPM plans a trip to his favorite backyard locale and people from half the country show up.

That has nothing to do with TT and everything to do with my raw animal magnetism.

Now please stop touching my butt.

Matt dumped us. The new owners aren't going to care what we think. Why should they? Sucks to be a TT'r today.

I'm not really ready to start Booing yet, but I would seriously be disappointed if they made much of a change. Probably enough to start using another forum. Hey speaking of that... Is upluver's page still working?

I here that. Things have been real busy here as well.

I like Asolo boots too, and if I saw an ad for them right now, I'd click on it and buy another pair.

Well, let's look at the new owners reasons for paying attention. They purchased a site based on the attraction of a vibrant working community. There is no inherent value in the site itself. It has no marketable tangible assets. The only thing of any value is us. Now it does not make sense to me that a company would purchase an intangible asset of "community" and then not care what would keep that community vibrant and participating.

Admittedly, not all transactions are undertaken with the highest degree of business sense and rationality. But if they have any business sense at all, they will listen. If they have any people sense at all, they will understand the value of this site is found in its community and will seek to preserve and improve on that success.

Lets hope they don't mind a little Christian bashing or this site is headed for the dung heap.

Rev, I completely disagree. There is value in the website as a whole, but only a small portion of that comes from this board. In fact, Matt has said in the past something to the effect that the TT board gets the least amount of hits on this website. This board may be what you and I hit the most from the website, but evidently that pales in comparison to the hits for the rest of the website. I just don't think they purchased this website because of some intrinsic value in the board.

Hill Climb Media found the community aspect of thebackpacker.com to be very appealing.

Creek Dancer.... I am basing my statement on that sentence from Matt's original post announcing the change. Assuming that to be true, then I feel safe in my perspective. Not to mention unless the archives, gear reports and other sundry items have value in and of themselves, which I don't see as the case, there is still no tangible marketable assets. The trips page is from us. The ad revenue what ever that may be is certainly not worth trashing the site over. If the site goes dormant for the trips page or the forum imo the site is worth diddley. We matter and they know it. Or at least they should.

True, dat. They bought a #&%!$load of trail and gear reviews in addition to the miscreants on the msg board.

Rev
And I am basing my statement on Matt's previous statements about the website as a whole. In terms of hits, this board brings the least amount of hits, and therefore the least value for the purpose of selling more ads. Where else do you think they get revenue, if not from the ads?
