Granola with Blueberries & Milk (Servings 27 - 1/2
Would there be any significant downside from buying the bulk item and then loading it up into baggies?

I rebag regular dinner type Mt. House meals all the time, since for me one meal is too much, but two is too much. I take two Mt. House 2-person lasagna entrees, lets say, and rebag them into three freezer baggies. Works fine. Have eaten them up to a year later (will be eating some of last year's soon on a trip)

Glad to hear it.

I really don't like the Mountain House packaging, and wondered if I would be killing the shelf life but repackaging.

BTW, the Granola with Blueberries & Milk is the bomb and since it is a cold meal I could use regular sandwich bags.

I'm not crazy about the MH lasagna. Sticks to my spoon and makes a mess.
Tastes OK.

I always rebag. Problem though when you split the meal in two bags. That means two nights on the trail you eat the same thing. Thats almost as bad as having ramen every night.

I use freezer bags just cuz they're thicker... nuthin' to do with freezing at all. Have had cheaper bags melt maybe twice.

Also, I do take the little dehumidifier thingee out of the two Mt. House bags and will put them in two of the three rebags. I try to make sure to use the one without it first. Don't know if it makes any difference in reality, but it's what I do.

And, yum, sticky orange gue on my guts! gotta love the lasagna. LOL!

except for the past weekend, I almost always divide the meals into two different bags. I have a vaccum sealer and use the bags that work with it. I have never had a problem. I have also bought the big canisters of the meals I really like and have divided them up. I always put what is in them, the date and how much water I need to use on the bags.

Repackaging Mountain House meals will definitely cut the shelf life. The #10 cans will last 20 years. I don't think the foil pack meal shelf life is rated as long. The Mountain House website has some information on shelf life I believe.

If you are repackaging for consumption within a few weeks you should be fine.
