The U.S. government officially removed the bald eagle from the endangered species list Thursday. More than 60 years of federal efforts to protect the species have raised the number of bald eagles from a low of only 400 nesting pairs to more than 10,000 pairs today. But some advocates worry that removing the species from the endangered list will open its habitats to encroaching development.
