Hot Springs Area “I'm considering taking off a whole week and bring the wife with. I know nothing about this area. What other things are there to do and is this a good area to plan a whole week? If so would this campground be a good staging area for us to stay to whole week?” 3:15:05 PM 7/03/07 “"Just as a side note, the camp store has about 50 brands of beer. A lot of stuff you won't see in the convenience store" So I won't need to bring any Lone Star Longnecks?” 3:22:38 PM 7/03/07 “you can hike the AT and a some other trails, there is the Hot Springs Spa across the street from the campgrounds, go bike riding or just hang out and relax in a cabin or in a Bed and Breakfast. I think there are a few of them in town last edited: 7/03/07 3:24:47 PM” 3:24:18 PM 7/03/07 “bring some Lone Star hotties with long necks.” 3:24:43 PM 7/03/07 “and a short dress” 3:25:06 PM 7/03/07 “So I won't need to bring any Lone Star Longnecks?” ChuckD 4:22:38 PM 7/03/07 Unfortunately, they don't have Lone Star. It's been a couple years since I had one. If you show up without them, I might go postal.” 3:30:36 PM 7/03/07 “oh please you wanted to go to Savage Gulf :)” Ewker 4:10:53 PM 7/03/07 Didn't take much to convince me to change my mind, now did it?” 3:31:45 PM 7/03/07 “nope pretty easy..beer or savage gulf...hmmm I can walk to the Pub for a pitcher of beer or have to hike in a with a 6 pack of beer....walking to the Pub sounds better” 3:40:21 PM 7/03/07 “Are you sure this is a kids trip?” 6:15:32 PM 7/03/07 “stomper, yes it is. Out of all the backpacking/hiking trips I have ever been on only one got out of hand and that was Savage Gulf and no kids were on that trip...of course it gets brought up time and time again by certain people like it is an everyday event. last edited: 7/03/07 10:30:57 PM” 10:29:15 PM 7/03/07 “Ewker...are you talking about the trip I was on??? it was sure blown out of porportion......LOL..I was accused of being drunk Fri eve....I had nothing to drink...I had one drink Saturday eve ...” 5:04:12 AM 7/04/07 “Glad Ewk isn't talking about the Savage trip I organized. The one you're talking about must've been out of hand. div - he's talking about Father and Mother Goose, cottonsocks, stikmon, and maybe one or two others. Everyone else pretty much behaved.” 6:22:28 AM 7/04/07 “I'm suprised I haven't heard any stories about that trip. Maybe no one can remember them!” 9:39:15 AM 7/04/07 “They've all been sworn to secrecy Stomper. Somebody there must have known people who could have them killed... ;-)” 9:46:58 AM 7/04/07 “Well, I don't want to put anyones life in danger. :)” 9:49:30 AM 7/04/07 ““Ewker...are you talking about the trip I was on??? it was sure blown out of porportion......LOL..I was accused of being drunk Fri eve....I had nothing to drink...I had one drink Saturday eve ...” divinity 5:04:12 AM 7/04/07 ignore this user -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Glad Ewk isn't talking about the Savage trip I organized. Father and Mother Goose were wandering around trying to find the parking lot a 1/4 mile away....lol last edited: 7/04/07 10:13:24 AM” 10:06:51 AM 7/04/07 T remember that TRIP “and lots of others to and from the trailhead ;-)” 10:12:37 AM 7/04/07 “I vividly remember it. Should have used the sarcasm font.” 7:00:42 AM 7/05/07 7:33:16 AM 7/05/07 “interesting - XL's site is blocked here at work because its "tasteless and gross"” 7:37:22 AM 7/05/07 “That trip was a TT Classic...I don't know about ya'll...but I don't know if I ever laughed so hard and much in all my life..... ...and Savage Gulf is wonderful...sorta like a larger Sipsey....only NOT as pretty :)” 10:08:16 AM 7/05/07 “div - I thought Red River Gorge was a neat combination of SG and Sipsey.” 10:28:22 AM 7/05/07 “really???...I guess I need to go there someday....I LOVE SIPSEYYYY...and I miss it :(” 10:29:50 AM 7/05/07 “Yeah, but it's probably 11 hrs from you. If I was going to drive that far for a trip I'd cut it short and hit the Smokies.” 10:31:21 AM 7/05/07 “Div, Sipsey doesn't even rank up there with Savage Gulf :)” 10:33:37 AM 7/05/07 “Yeah, Savage doesn't offer near what Sipsey does.” 10:34:41 AM 7/05/07 Loosing Focus “Starting to sound more like drinking skills than outdoor skills. I will volunteer any skill sets that I can offer, what do people want to learn about? This really ought to be promoted as a rookie school so to speak, where you learn the tricks of the trade. Old and new can carry something away from the skills. What would be neat would be get a sponsor or just collect a buck from everyone and vote who taught the most pracatical skill in the best way, and let them have the jackpot. I am no subject matter expert but I do know back country survival skills, pioneer skills, and "roughing it skills" from my days in scouts, as a forest ranger, and as a revolutionary war re-enactor. I am sure that I will learn something useful from everyone there teaching.” 10:43:42 AM 7/05/07 “Div, Sipsey doesn't even rank up there with Savage Gulf :)” Ewker 10:33:37 AM 7/05/07 ...I disagree!!!! :)” 10:52:31 AM 7/05/07 “Yerby, I will stay focused on what this trip is all about. I will be getting emails out in the next couple weeks to set the agenda. Just like most TT threads, we just go sidetracked for a while.” 12:27:45 PM 7/05/07 Recommended reading.... “This is a link to recommended reading for those of you who desire basic skills... It's MILITARILY oriented, so try to get beyond the tactical aspects of the information and key in on the SURVIVAL information it puts out.... One last thing that I HIGHLY agree with from this site: You will not learn the skills you desire by reading about them, you learn through HANDS ON....I will teach a few of these techniques at Hot Springs if it's requested, just come prepared to DO things, not just sit and listen to lecture..... http://www.sererescuesog.addr.com/USRSOG-Introduction.htm Click through the various Links to the left, take your time, and BOOKMARK the site so you can find it again.....” 2:44:24 PM 7/05/07 sup chiliman!! “The ole lady found a job not too far from you, in Sylva, starts next summer. We'll be back in the Sprang to house/land hunt. Who was it that get a piece of prop near Franklin? Sirpete wadn't it? Well we'z gonna be nabes it looks like.” 3:07:25 PM 7/05/07 “Just like most TT threads, we just go sidetracked for a while.” chili 12:27:45 PM 7/05/07 ALL the threads get sidetracked!!!! ...and..I can have fun without drinking!!!” 3:09:12 PM 7/05/07 “I agree SuperTroll! You can read about all the skills in the world but you have to learn by doing. That's why this trip is important. We actually get to DO the things we've heard or read about.” 6:30:11 PM 7/05/07 Sorry If I sounded Rude “I didn't mean to sound like a priest; heck it wasn't too long ago that I had to crawl from a TT'er campfire to my tent from too much libations. I am looking forward to this trip and the skill section. I bet everyone, no matter how many miles they have on their favorite socks, will learn and depart with some nugget of knowledge. I have some friends, who my the nature of the right parents; have gone and backpacked some great areas of the US but they can't build a campfire. They have no idea how to combine a map and compass, They can't identify edible food around here. They have the best gear, the newest stuff and wont learn a damn thing on how to care for it or field strip it if needed. I guess that is why I didn't want to get too sidetracked. Pleeeeaaasseee no one, and I mean no one, try and teach me a damn thing they read out of Backpacker Magazine. I don't need to know how to make a Latte off a Primus stove.” 8:29:33 PM 7/05/07 “I don't need to know how to make a Latte off a Primus stove.” yerby 9:29:33 PM 7/05/07 oh puleese.... not when coleman has come out with a "Mr. Coffee" type drip that sits on the stove. We need cutting edge stuff here.” 8:33:28 PM 7/05/07 “I am available to teach basic map reading iffin someone else hasn't volunteered and if need be I can give up some hints on cooking PIG BUTTS! Be prepared for a military style class though because thats all I know.” 9:25:14 AM 7/08/07 “hooah!” 11:38:47 AM 7/08/07 “Supertroll to be politically correct I think you must use capital letters...HOOAH! ALLRIGHT LISTEN UP....AMERICA LOVES NOT BEING LOST. ANY TRUE AMERICAN KNOWS HOW TO READ A MAP AND USE IT.” 7:25:05 AM 7/09/07 “ ”7:32:10 AM 7/09/07 “I trust everyone realizes the above photo has been reversed!!! pretty funny. But sad.” 7:35:43 AM 7/09/07 “LOL..good call rev” 7:48:47 AM 7/09/07 “Thanks, spam. If ChuckD can make it, he can help on this, I think. But it would be great if you could take the point on this one.” 8:12:49 AM 7/09/07 “No problemo!” 3:11:42 PM 7/09/07 “Spam, needs to teach the basic skill of making Spam burritos for breakfast” 3:24:40 PM 7/09/07 “I can do that too and I promise to leave the green dishsoap at home!” 3:56:48 PM 7/09/07 “LOL...Hey Stovie...figure out your route...if you want to stop in Augusta let me know and we can share the run up to NC. OH Killer there is a Mast General Store in Ashville. last edited: 7/10/07 7:48:35 AM” 7:47:34 AM 7/10/07 “Mast General is awesome. I've been in a couple of them. Boone and Banner Elk were the ones I went to. I've seen the one in Asheville and it looks very 50's. The others look 50's too, 1850's that is.” 7:57:46 AM 7/10/07 Jump to Page << prev
