“changed myself to a maybe. If I do make it I will get there Friday evening but will have to drive back Sat evening. It is only 3.5-4 hrs away so no biggie driving there and back”

“unfortunately, about all i know is uncle sams training..but a lot of that coinsides with backpacking..lol...as for map reading...while i can find my way, im not very good at it...its funny, one of the few things i dont do well...lol....i actually was lookin foward to learning from someone who had more experience with the civilian maps....u know the military uses the Military Map Grid System.....i can use it fairly well.....but.....”

“Bryan iffin you can get me a 6 or 8 digit grid coordinate then you have most civilians whipped at map reading already!”

“lol, well, that i can do... its actually following the darn thing....lol....i usually pass the field test we take, but its always a pain in the rear...lol, of course if i remember correctly a third of the points were actually where they were supposed to be, other than that it was guesstimation......lol”

“Military Land navigation courses are so over used, all ya gotta do is follow the trail beaten into the grass........and the points are usually 4 X 4 white plywood with 2 foot high letters or numbers on them....

In the SFQ course, the points are the same as those posts you see Stop signs on, about shoulder height, painted forest green, with a Dog Tag wired to them with the next azimuth and distance on it....if you don't find your first point, you can't know where the second one is...
the points are like 3 klicks or more apart, the course is run in the dark, and they set it up so you can't finish without running the roads, then tell you that if they CATCH you running the Roads you wash out...

“well Guys and gals, ia am now questionalble on this trip. Just got word that my mother in law has Pancreas Cancer and maybe 2 or 3 months instead of 6 to 8 like they said at firt=t. since we have to go up and help take care of her, we not sure if we will make it or not so I had to cancel my cabin reservations. hopefully we may be able to come and campout. since we will only be 90 miles away in greenville Sc.Wont know till then.”

LOL somewhere in the middle of the swamp there is a HUGE map (plastic covered) and from a distance you can see the words "YOU ARE HERE"...you wade, fall and try to run to it...only to find the arrow...is pointing to the bottom of the tree. (NO reference on the map.”

“the hot springs are right across the road....but they arent actually open springs......they pipe hot water to jacuzzi tubs from some nearby springs....and its not free.....at least thats what i gathered from the website...”
