Bladder Mildew “I seem to have gotten some mildew in my hydration bladder. Should I just toss it, or can I effectively clean it with a bleach solution (10:1)? I think that the mildew will still leave the stains, but the smell and nastiness will be gone. Help?” 6:15:13 AM 6/30/07 “A bleach solution will do the trick. Just let it sit over night and the bladder will be as good as new.” 6:55:37 AM 6/30/07 “This sounds like a personal problem - please consult your doctor....” 7:37:40 AM 6/30/07 “LZ is right. Just use some bleach, and really hot water. Shake it around and let it soak for a day or two. There are bladder/hose cleaning kits you can buy but They cost just as much as a new plattypus bladder. Seems kinda silly to me. If you can't get the funk out get a new one. They aren't that expensive, and next time store it empty with the cap off. This should prevent the problem from recuring.” 10:03:23 AM 6/30/07 “I'm doing that this evening. I missed a couple outings cause the green goo was floating. It don't take long for the gunk to show up in hot humid weather specially when it's had stream water in it. I thought keeping it in the dark would forestall the dreaded green goo. But no such luck on this one.” 6:34:04 PM 6/30/07 “I keep mine in the freezer between trips... doesn't allow anything to grow!!!” 11:08:51 PM 6/30/07
