Those purple flowers are cool. They look like puple monarda. I hope there are more pics than that by the end of the month. I couldn't possibly choose between the two.

hobbit, what about what lizs brought up last time? (and i sorta chimed in as well)

Just wondering what others thought/found out.

...Then again, you guys know I like to constructive critiques. It would seem that could be done here with the anonymous comments, in fact, it would seem to be the perfect way to do that if you don't want to leave a name. BUT... don't be nasty either! Just an idea I'm tossing Hobbit's way: To have us vote by name... but be able to leave comments/critiques anonymously.

Speak out if you might like to see that.”

i'm totally on board for this concept. it's what i was thinking in the very beginning when liz proposed this whole gig. i'd really like to see more comments and critiques.
anybody who has a thin skin probably didn't make it past day one with this group, right?”

Thanks, Hobbit. Sorry I somehow missed that before.

Sheesh, it's good mental discipline to be able to make up one's own mind anyway. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.

Here's my take on the subject: I joined a photograhy club several years ago, and attended monthly meetings for quite some time. We would do/have projects similar to this one, and we would share our work with one another on a regular basis, with the object of critiqueing one another's work. If I have something to say about your photo, I will do it straight up, and stand behind my comments. My opinion is that type of forum encourages constructive criticism, as well as civility. The anonymity of the internet in my opinion fosters just the oposite. My two cents.
hobbit

in my experience, hobbit, people can be civil only as long as the forum in which they participate is civil...TT, on the other hand, is more like a roast than a toast, so i don't think this is the place for constructive photographic criticism...

i don't know if you're familiar with the photo-sharing website, flickr, but there are a number of groups that encourage constructive criticism there. feel free to email me if you're interested.

It's been a very very very dry year here in San Diego. I do have one pic of a single trumpet flower with a backdrop of dried up foliage. It's a struggle to survive this drought. When I look at your photo, it's a very sad picture.

hobbit and happyclicker,
your points are valid, except that a contest such as this isn't very good bait for trolls. i'd be surprised if many of the fuegoish mean spirited trolls showed up.

really, i'm fine with critiques under usernames too. i just thought it be easier to count the votes from the critiques. my main thing is that i'd like to see more constructive criticism rather than just votes.

most importantly, thanks for putting your time and effort in to hosting this hobbit!

There is really nothing preventing people from adding as many anonymous comments as they want to each photo. My only request was that we vote for one photo per person, and that we vote using our trail-talk names.... sort of to prevent "stuffing the ballet box".
