“I have a hard time getting my water bottles out of the side pockets on my pack without taking my pack off. My arms just don't bend that way. What are some good ways (products) of mounting the water bottle to the front straps, or maybe the belt?” 11:16:28 PM 7/04/07 11:25:10 PM 7/04/07 “I have just made a couple of bags out of scraps from other projects and run the waist belt through a belt loop. I have a drawstring on them but don't always use it.” 11:39:38 PM 7/04/07 “Get a platypus (or similar system) bladder with drinking tube. Much better than having a bulky bottle strapped to your hip or shoulder strap. http://www.platypushydration.com/product_detail.aspx?ProdID=9” 1:26:50 AM 7/05/07 “OR makes one with velcro, easy to switch between packs. http://www.outdoorresearch.com/home/style/home/storage/storage_insulat_organize/WBT” 3:47:51 AM 7/05/07 “Euro, I put two Platy 1.8s in the top pocket of my pack, not necessarily full, and keep a foam insulator over the hose year-'round. Â For dayhikes, a single 1.8 in the butt-bag works great. When I first started carrying water that way I was concerned with leaks, but it's been years now and I haven't had a single failure (knock-on-wood). Because they pack flat and are so light, bringing one or two spares is no hassle.” 4:12:42 AM 7/05/07 “I found a mesh pack vest made by peak. It was not a real vest, but two pieces that clip your shoulder straps and sides of packs. It is awesome for carrying water bottles, camera, maps and gorp that you need on the trail. I never have found one online.” 6:04:09 AM 7/05/07 “Me too, Tilt. Just love my platypus. I have been using them for years and never had a leak so far. Treat your platypus well and give it a big hug. It will love you back.” 6:06:31 AM 7/05/07 Tilt And His True Love “ ”6:52:52 AM 7/05/07 “Hey Chin, Yeah, I agree get a platypus. I just put mine in the front of my pack closest to my back, and stuff gear around it to hold it in place. Never had a problem with it leaking.” 7:54:23 AM 7/05/07 “...mmmmm, Marko, your old platypus looks pretty slimmy. I have heard bleach does the trick and give it a good scrub with that tiny tube brush thingy. It will love it. Leave it standing upright until it's completly dry. Platypus are pretty robust and with a bit of care and attention they will stay with you for many years.” 8:09:11 AM 7/05/07 “My platy's have been working really well going on 4 years now!” 10:53:36 AM 7/05/07 “Just put it on my bill. Watch out for those spurs --- Yee Ha!” 11:05:16 AM 7/05/07 “Only problem with a platy is you can run out of water before you know you are getting low. A bottle is nice as a backup or to use to put crystal light in at lunch.” 12:03:06 PM 7/05/07 “Crystal light at lunch? What's that? Stove, are you getting stoned at high noon?” 12:22:20 PM 7/05/07 “ ”12:24:32 PM 7/05/07 “oooh...Lemonade.” 1:50:35 PM 7/05/07 “http://store.drsoda.com/crystallight1.html Comes in many favors, Euro. Best thing for packing in years.” 2:00:15 PM 7/05/07 “I will try it, if I can get it in Denver. When you said 'crystal light' I actually thought you were talking about some light emitting substance, sort of crystals, which you pour into your flask, shake it up with water and use your flask as lantern. Well, not sure if such a wonder substance realy exists, but I thought you might have the formula for it...” 4:03:51 PM 7/05/07 “Email me and I'll send you some, if the postage to Europe isn't out of sight. (click name for profile). Also, as long as it isn't a problem with shipping 'foodstuffs'.” 4:08:53 PM 7/05/07 “I have just about given up on bottles too Chin. A 2 liter platty is way lighter than 2 nalgenes, and probably lighter than 2 recycled 1l plastic bottles too. Though I will prolly always carry one 20 oz bottle or a mug or something too. It's just so hard to get the amounts right when making mixed drinks by the 2 liter...” 5:15:41 PM 7/05/07 “I like my Platty with drinking tube to some degree but I LOVE having a bottle with some Crystal Light and I don't, for some reason, dislike adding Crystal Light to my container with bite tube. I'd love to have a 32oz or smaller bottle that I can EASILY get my hands on. I can usu pull a bottle out of the side pocket on my pack, but I almost NEVER can get it back in without taking off my pack......unless, of course, someone is standing next to me.....heheh” 8:32:35 PM 7/05/07
