I don't go in for overpriced gadgets and I never get sucked into new gadget mania and i'd never stand in line waiting for a release. Having siad that I had a chance to play with one of the new iPhones and all I can say is that it is everything they claim.

Unbelievable! Am I gonna pay for one though? No.

Personally when I first saw this I remembered the story about the San Diego Zoo train named Wgasa.

Apparently they sent a memo around looking for a good "African" sounding name. Some guy wrote WGASA on his form.....later they learned it stood for

Who Gives a S--t Anyway.

troubles for iPhone........let em have it.........my phone works just fine and i don't need all the extras, just a phone. I'd rather listen to nature, see the sky and trees, put my finger on a rock or plant.

iPhone
Sleek and Elegant, a la all Apple products -- guaranteed to ooh and ahh all your friends...

...BUT...

Too bad all the cellular networks (especially AT&T/Cingular) suck big hairy [insert favorite nasty expletive here]. At the end of the day, many of its functions are reduced, by the network, to just working normally. Because of this, it really doesn't do anything more than your garden-variety PDA phone, other than cost twice as much.

Save your money and pass the iPhone, and perhaps send a message to AT&T their network is a POS.

Phantom...what you say is all true man but regardless....ya gotta love AAPL stock man....that's where it matters at the end of day dude....make mad money....anywho....

That being said....After my review of the product...it does come a bit short of the hype and some of the problems i'm forseeing are:

Text Maniacs are going to have a loooong learning curve....tapping keys takes awhile to get accustomed to....my bet is they'll scream like little whinning cry babies....

Battery Life?? Bad design...ya can't replace it and its life span is questionable..

Internet...slow.....let me restate very slow....

Memory....give me a break man...like how am I gonna watch Pee Wee's Playhouse reruns on an 8gb piece of machinery?.....

I wondered about the small memory as well. My conclusion is that they introduced it with 8gb and the diehards will go out and buy it. Then, next year when they release teh 20 gig version, those people will replace their perfectly good phones for the new ones. Apple seems to have that ability to work it's customers like that. I know people who have had 4 and 5 or more Ipods at this point.

True dat about the Cingular/ATT network. My wife and I just bought a house and we've had to get a home phone for the first time in years because we can't get reception. The guys working at our house are on their phones all day long though. They are all on the Verizon network. With Cingular, I lose a call anytime I go down a hill.

From slashdot:

"Apple has released what it will cost to replace the battery in the iPhone, and consumers might be a bit put off. Replacement is a tricky ordeal, as the battery is apparently soldered into the device. The service will cost $79, plus $6.95 for shipping, plus an optional $29 'loaner iPhone' rental. A consumer advocacy group sent a letter to Apple complaining that this information was not made public before iPhone's release since the cost of the battery replacement is so high. Even reviewer Harvey Rosenfield, who is usually very kind to Apple, was quoted as saying 'some of them might be waking up now, wondering who they got in bed with.'"

My sister told me a story about her co-worker who has to have the newest most expensive everything. I guess Nike announced that they would be releasing a new running shoe that actually hooked into you pc so you could do god knows what to them, but when he heard about this he bought some on-line for like $300 before they were avail in stores around here, then one of them broke, and he was SOL because they weren't purchased through a regular distributor. LOL!

You will not be able to purchase this phone without a contract, or even a one year contact. You MUST sign for a TWO year contract. what kind a #&%!$ is that?

I set up an iPhone yesterday for a client with a Treo 650. He wanted both the Treo 650 and the iPhone to sync with his calendar and contacts in Outlook as well as his calendar and contacts on his Mac laptop.

It was a piece of cake. My next phone, however, will be a Windows Mobile 6 device. I want it to sync with my Exchange server without having to attach it directly to a computer.

Ski...I am in a quandry, looking for something that will take the place of my AXIM
I need calendar, computer sync capable, and would like to be able to do some WORD stuff on it......

So would you recommend the Treo or the Motorola Q?

XL, I don't know much about the Motorola Q. I've been using the Treo 650 which is Palm based. If I were getting another Treo, it would definitely be Windows based.

Well Well....I finally got my hands on an iPhone and played with if for awhile in the Apple Store and I've got to say it is a cool piece of machinery but really now....there was way too much "stuff" on this thing that I persoanally wouldn't need....like internet access...I don't need it...plus it was slow as a lard arse....it took me awhile to get accustom to OS and the tapping and dragging on glass....a tad different from your classic cell phone....i'm tellin' ya text'ter's are gonna have a fit....

Anywho....I saw an article yesterday talking about a "nano" version....not much detail and no assurance from Apple that it exists...it would be nice to have a version with just phone, iPod (with at least 30 gig or more) and a camera....if only those main features were on it....i'd consider buying it....but for now i'm gonna sit on the sidelines and wait...maybe if Motorola ever got their act together and get Ichan in there maybe we could see some competition....

IPhones flooding wireless LAN at Duke University

18,000 requests per second from iPhones knocking out dozens of access points at Duke University.

By John Cox, NetworkWorld.com, 07/16/07

The Wi-Fi connection on Apple’s recently released iPhone seems to be the source of a big headache for network administrators at Duke University.

The built-in 802.11b/g adapters on several iPhones periodically flood sections of the Durham, N.C., school’s pervasive wireless LAN with MAC address requests, temporarily knocking out anywhere from a dozen to 30 wireless access points at a time...."

My friend demonstrated his iPhone to me and it looked awesome. He said it exceeded his expectations. He was a bit bummed because he works for AT&T and did not get any discounts or breaks. I guess all Apple employees got a free iPhone.

Firmware Update Breaks Hacked iPhones
Apple makes good on its threat: the recent firmware update siables unlocked iPhones and wipes unauthorized apps.
Robert McMillan, IDG News Service
Saturday, September 29, 2007 4:00 AM PDT

Users are reporting that a new update to Apple Inc.'s iPhone is making previously unlocked iPhones unusable.

The iPhone 1.1.1 update, released Thursday, breaks phones that have been hacked so that they work with providers other than AT&T Inc., the only U.S. provider Apple has allowed to carry its mobile phones.

In recent months, a number of software tools have been developed which allow iPhone users to break free of Apple's AT&T-only restriction, but Apple has said that it would fight any attempts to unlock the iPhone. Earlier this week the company released a warning that unlocked iPhones "will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed."

Shortly after the Thursday update was released, users of unlocked iPhones began reporting problems....
