I got up at 3am to watch the beginning of the concert for the earth which started in Tokyo...they're broadcasting it all day on the Sundance channel...” 6:45:31 AM 7/07/07 “When I opened this thread the number of lookers was SEVEN.” 7:27:08 AM 7/07/07 “Universal HD has it on too. I heard that this concert will set a record as the largest carbon footprint of any single event. The Carbon footprint for the whole Live Earth event is estimated at 7,000 tons of CO2 emissions. This does not include the private jets of all the celebrities who will be attending or the thousands of people who will drive in their cars to each concert.” 7:36:11 AM 7/07/07 “Biggest racket since the pet rock.” 8:14:31 AM 7/07/07 “if those bands weren't playing on Live Earth they'd be playing on some other stage so while the footprint is large, as everyone has such a good time commenting about (Fox news, for one), there would be a carbon footprint left anyway...the stage lights blew out in Sidney which Crowded House said was appropriate... I'm really enjoying the short films interspersed between the music” 8:43:19 AM 7/07/07 “Crowded House is okay, but I think I liked them better as the Split Enz, < G >” 9:06:21 AM 7/07/07 “Bravo has it too. Today will be perfect eh? Good day to go shopping, lol.” 9:10:18 AM 7/07/07 “ ![]() Boeing Triple-Seven 9:11:08 AM 7/07/07 “Today is also a popular day to get married.” 9:25:45 AM 7/07/07 “Have two friends getting married today. Thus the shopping....” 9:30:50 AM 7/07/07 “Pamplona's running of the drunks, er, bulls started today too.” 9:46:44 AM 7/07/07 “to add to that... seven drunks... er... daring souls were injured during the running of the dorks... er... bulls.” 10:11:07 AM 7/07/07 “I can't wait until Gore gets up on stage and declares his candidacy. The salvos between Gore and Clinton will be fun to watch.” 12:17:16 PM 7/07/07 “Linkin Park ROCKED!!!! Waiting for the RHCP!! Yea!” 12:18:23 PM 7/07/07 “Triple sevens huh? I think I'm gonna go purchase seven lottery tickets for tonight drawing!” 12:24:42 PM 7/07/07 “not a bad day for my one day off this month.” 12:34:58 PM 7/07/07 quiz for your carbon footprint 12:40:51 PM 7/07/07 “Carbon-based life-form. 9-9.5, medium width. 362 (yikes)” 1:08:23 PM 7/07/07 “I'm a doctor, not a stone mason" Leonard McCoy Star Trek TOS” 1:09:38 PM 7/07/07 “I really enjoyed Metallica and other bands but the performer that got me dancing was Madonna...I think hers was the best performance I have so far seen...go ahead and mock me, folks...but I love to dance and she gets me on my feet, healthy or not... It's over 100F...a perfect day to stay inside with the ac watching Live Earth...soon as Bill left I turned the ac down...I like 80F...more than 20 degrees between inside and outside is too much a shock for my body... I'm watching LIve Earth from the computer although I still check out Sundance to see where they are...” 4:56:49 PM 7/07/07 “Spinal Tap was slated for the London show.... what a hoot.” 6:55:35 PM 7/07/07 Anybody remember?? “Who remembers the first concert televised like this...Live Aid?? When they showed that on tv did they have commercials? I don't remember any. I was in college then.” 10:32:39 PM 7/07/07 10:34:50 PM 7/07/07 “I LOVE Spinal Tap...the first big concert utilizing multiple acts was in 1971 and was the Concert for Bangladesh. Live-Aid in 1985 was the first multiple venue music event...” 9:21:45 AM 7/08/07 “I see this as one of the largest attempts at indoctrination through music in the history of the modern age. This couldn't be any creepier if it was Amway, the Moonies or PromisKeepers doing this. Face it, you couldn't get this many people to come together and listen to people push an agenda and theory if they didn't lure people in with the music. Using breaks between the musical acts to show indoctrination material to present their view of truth in order to gain more power and more money. If this were the christian scientists or some other cult doing this everyone would be shouting, "Holy shlt their trying to brainwash everyone!". But if Algore and the gang do it the media feed and suckle happily. The whole global warming movement is the new religion and they are counting on heard mentality to gain more and more power.” 9:51:31 AM 7/08/07 “ooh, conspiracy theory mentality...love it!” 9:53:04 AM 7/08/07 “Conspiracy? Who said anything about that? I was only talking about furthering an ideology. Answer this then. What is the purpose of the events? From the web site: SOS is the ongoing messaging campaign and larger movement behind Live Earth. The mission of the SOS campaign is to empower individuals to change their consumer behaviors and motivate corporations and political leaders to enact decisive measures to combat the climate crisis. The message of SOS is that everyone, everywhere can and must Answer the Call to solve the climate crisis. The SOS campaign's identity and language is based on the international Morse code distress call: three dots, followed by three dashes, followed by three dots. The SOS signal will be used as a continuous call to action to prompt individuals, corporations and governments around the world to Answer the Call with immediate and sustained action. The SOS campaign is using a powerful multimedia platform - short films, television and radio PSAs, an interactive web experience, books, the Live Earth concerts themselves - to provide a global audience with the tools to tackle the climate crisis. It's about power based on theories, half truths and cherry picked information. Sounds like organized religion to me.” 10:02:47 AM 7/08/07 “Ha ha ha, it doesn't sound anything like religion! But that's the wingnut line...........for now.........rock on!! We must fear the free dissemination of such information or the empire is doomed. Taking our future into our own hands is inherently a danger to our future. This could lead to a loss of corporate control and chaos................dogs and cats living together..............schit of biblical proportions. last edited: 7/08/07 10:13:01 AM” 10:07:23 AM 7/08/07 “I took this phrase, "The whole global warming movement is the new religion and they are counting on heard mentality to gain more and more power.” to mean you thought it was a conspiracy...and, I don't get off on online debates...they are usually an exercise in semantics best left to fuego threads, IMHO...” 10:08:15 AM 7/08/07 “See, MarkO is already a believer and sits with glazed eyes and a smile to receive more of the Gospel according to Gore. LOL! And did you notice how he has been effected by the assumed political correctness of the movement? He went right for the "If you don't buy it you're evil.", schtick. last edited: 7/08/07 10:13:21 AM” 10:10:32 AM 7/08/07 “I believe in everything...LOL..” 10:16:39 AM 7/08/07 “Wrong again, Chumley, its guys like you who are making a common sense issue into an ideological issue. It's your fear that upsetting the status quo will lead to a decline in our civilization fueled by right wing propaganda kooks who fear change. Round and round we go!!” 10:17:06 AM 7/08/07 “does anybody else notice that Mdonna has become extremely HOT?” 10:20:22 AM 7/08/07 “"And did you notice how he has been effected by the assumed political correctness of the movement? He went right for the "If you don't buy it you're evil.", schtick." Uh..................where or when did that "thought" occur to you? Did you receive that from the Mother Ship? Because I never said any such thing. "Evil"????? You're makin' this schit up. Chumley, old bean, you are trying to label me with that "political correctness" thing and I am anything but.” 10:22:19 AM 7/08/07 ““Wrong again, Chumley, its guys like you who are making a common sense issue into an ideological issue. Common sense issues are based on axioms and postulates that show themselves to be true. Global warming theory is not common sense. the fact that you have even come to believe it is "common sense" shows your sheepish side. It's your fear that upsetting the status quo will lead to a decline in our civilization fueled by right wing propaganda kooks who fear change. I have no fear of upsetting the status quo and I do not fear change in the least. This is why I voted democrat nearly straight across the boards in the last election. What I do fear is an environment where there is no room for discussion, disagreement and the representation of both sides of an issue. I want truth no matter it's effects. The global warming crowd ain't it.” 10:25:01 AM 7/08/07 “Uh..................where or when did that "thought" occur to you? We must fear the free dissemination of such information or the empire is doomed. You are saying here that I fear free speech... Taking our future into our own hands is inherently a danger to our future. Again, an assumption that because I don't buy it I am against free will. This could lead to a loss of corporate control and chaos................ And because I am against the whole global warming theory I am in bed with the evil corporation who run the world. You sound just like Bush when he declared, 'You're either with us or against us.'.” 10:29:30 AM 7/08/07 “Al Gore, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy agenda come. Thy will be done, On North America as it is in the United Nations. Give us this day our daily propaganda. And forgive us our carbon footprints, As we forgive those who pollute against us. And lead us not into non-recycling, But deliver us from George Bush. For thine is the only truth, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.” 10:32:20 AM 7/08/07 “Madonna is an amazing artist. She probably looked hotter last night that she did a few years ago when she went way out there with her "sex" look complete with ridiculous tops...her longevity is based on her creativity...she's gets it right more often than she gets it wrong... I'd rather discuss Madonna than ideology...you are so shallow, Mata! last edited: 7/08/07 10:33:29 AM” 10:32:48 AM 7/08/07 “I like her mustache, gapped teeth and fake English accent best. LOL!” 10:34:15 AM 7/08/07 “Who was the gal in the shorts and gold tights? I want to hear more from her. I love that voice.” 10:37:50 AM 7/08/07 “Accents are funny....after living outside the States a short time, less than a year, I no longer sounded American...Yanks thought I was Welsh or something like that...some of us find our accents change when we live overseas...it's isn't fake...it just happens...I didn't even know it until my Dad commented on it... gapped teeth...she was smart to keep those... Italian women often have mustaches...mama Mia! chick in the shorts and gold tights was KT Tunstall...a Brit I downloaded Black Horse and a Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See, 2 of her songs, onto my Ipod after her set...she's good! last edited: 7/08/07 10:43:06 AM” 10:40:05 AM 7/08/07 “"What I do fear is an environment where there is no room for discussion, disagreement and the representation of both sides of an issue." There is always room for discussion. "It's about power based on theories, half truths and cherry picked information. Sounds like organized religion to me." There has been evidence of climate change for decades and only recently has it gotten as much traction as it has. Meteorologists have been pointing to this for at least forty years. It is not, as you say, "....half truths and cherry picked information...". It is not an ideological issue. It is not a "power grab" by "socialists" or some such fiddle-faddle.” 10:42:30 AM 7/08/07 “Oh yeah!! K.T. Tunstall is a very attractive woman and one hell of a musician. She is Scottish and has a Chinese granny. Enough of this bickering!!!” 10:46:04 AM 7/08/07 “It is not, as you say, "....half truths and cherry picked information...". Of course it is. Why do we never hear Algore and the gang telling everyone to give up eating meat because it causes 20% of all c0s gases? Even more than cars. Because it's too much of a hard sell to the masses. They're all on board as long as it's big business they're vilifying. But when asked to give up their own steaks and pizzas they'd be off the band wagon in a heartbeat. How many tons of hamburgers and hot dogs do you think they sold at these events yesterday? It is not an ideological issue. It is not a "power grab" by "socialists" or some such fiddle-faddle. Did you miss the statement above from the organizer's web site? The mission of the SOS campaign is to empower individuals to change their consumer behaviors and motivate corporations and political leaders to enact decisive measures to combat the climate crisis. The message of SOS is that everyone, everywhere can and must Answer the Call to solve the climate crisis. It's ALL about control and power. Everything above the grass roots level always is.” 10:50:27 AM 7/08/07 “"K.T. Tunstall is a very attractive woman and one hell of a musician. She is Scottish and has a Chinese granny" that's one helluva mix...no wonder she looked so exotic, even for a Brit...” 10:52:29 AM 7/08/07 “She is a cuty. Never even heard of her. ”11:02:22 AM 7/08/07 “Face it, you couldn't get this many people to come together and listen to people push an agenda and theory if they didn't lure people in with the music. Using breaks between the musical acts to show indoctrination material to present their view of truth in order to gain more power and more money. Nigal 7:51:31 AM 7/08/07 The film opened in New York City and Los Angeles on May 24, 2006. On Memorial Day weekend, it grossed an average of $91,447 per theater, the highest of any movie that weekend and a record for a documentary, though it was only playing on four screens at the time. The film has grossed over $24 million in the U.S. and over $49 million worldwide as of June 3, 2007, making it the third-highest-grossing documentary in the U.S. to date. Wow, Nig, here are all these people paying to see this film. Not a rock star in sight!” 6:59:57 PM 7/08/07 “$91,447 per theater for a whole weekend isn't dittly squat. That's an average of just over 13,000 people for a whole weekend. Hardly an example of everyone rushing together at one place and time. And it's a movie. How many of those who paid $300 plus for good seats would pay that for just lecture information and movie clips? While $49 mill sounds big that just over 600,000 people. Hardly a stampede.” 7:24:08 PM 7/08/07 I guess you missed this part: “the highest of any movie that weekend and a record for a documentary” 7:36:42 PM 7/08/07 “Memorial Day weekend is _not_ a prime movie time slot. In fact it is a pretty poor slot all told. Secondly, a record for documentaries is useful only for its context which is pretty bad. It is not difficult to sset a new record for documentaries as they rarely if ever do much box office. The figures sound big but put in context they are barely noteworthy. The official US box office is <24 mil as listed on yahoo movies. It was released to DVD in Nov 2006. If the 49 mil figures includes DVD sales as it usually would when figuring gross take that is an extremely poor showing even for documentaries. last edited: 7/08/07 7:49:03 PM” 7:42:48 PM 7/08/07
