Mt. Whitney trip
I turned 50 this year and I'm planning a trip to Mt. Whitney on July 29 to
August 4, 2007. I have 3 slots available for anyone who want to go. The hike
is point to point that will involve 46 miles of hiking from Onion Valley
campground to the Whitney Portal. I have secured the permit to go in to the
back country but I need to be in Onion Valley at or before 11 am, July 30,
2007 to get 4 wilderness permits to exit. This should be no problem. It will
be a full moon and night hiking should be spectacular. I have a campsite
reserved for the night of July 30, 2007. Then depart July 31, 2007. The hike
will be between 10,000 ft. and 14,400 feet and will be a real grinder going
up to the summit. The views will be spectacular and it will be worth it and
is something you will never forget. I have been in training doing day hike to 10,000 feet elevations every weekend since June 23 and many other hikes to 8,000 feet elevations before. Please email me at skycall@comcast.com if you want to go. Blue Skies and Happy Trails!!

Tom,
You've got mail.

I enjoyed your pics from the Hawkins peak trip. Wish I could of been there.:(

This should be a great trip. We did this Whitney route 2 years ago and it still remains one of my fondest. However, We didn't have a full moon. ;)

Cancelling Trip
Due to the lack of interest in this backpacking trip, I'm going to cancel it and wait until next year.

Yes, did this with songbyrd a few years ago. Six nights and seven days.

Better luck next year. Try proposing a day-by-day itinerary with mileages to attract more interest.

Mt. Whitney trip
Thanks Phil for the advice. I'm just getting into backpacking this year after a long layoff. I started skydiving in 1980 and didn't backpack for 25 years. Now I have quit skydiving and am starting all over. I have all new stuff now. I need to learn more about Mt. Whitney, stopping points, etc., before I go and by next year I will be more ready.
