Vitters apologizes for banging hookers

Sen. David Vitter, R-Louisiana, apologized Monday night for "a very serious sin in my past" after his telephone number appeared among those associated with an escort service operated by the so-called "D.C. Madam."

- David made history in 2004 as the first Republican ever elected to the U.S. Senate by the people of Louisiana, and the first to win an open Louisiana U.S. Senate or gubernatorial position without a runoff.

In the Senate he's been a leading advocate for making President Bush's tax cuts permanent to create more jobs, and for balancing the budget through real spending restraint.

He's helped pass important education and health care reforms, and strong measures to build up our military and intelligence capabilities and win the War on Terror. And David has been a tireless worker in the ongoing effort to rebuild Louisiana better and stronger following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

David serves on three key Senate committees that are important to Louisiana: Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Environment and Public Works; and Small Business. He has also been asked as a freshman to head the Republican Senator Roundtable, where he builds more support for strong reform conservatives in the U.S. Senate.

David started his public service as a State Legislator. In that role, he challenged the tax-and-spend politicians in Baton Rouge - and won. He repealed the state death tax when they wanted to raise taxes, kept criminals in jail longer while still balancing the budget, and passed term limits against great odds. He even filed successful ethics actions against Edwin Edwards gambling deals and Tulane Legislative Scholarship abuses.

When David ran for Congress, he was opposed by the good-ole-boys - and won again.
Instead of being a quiet freshman, David turned heads by passing major legislation on prescription drugs and Lake Pontchartrain clean-up, and by securing a seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee.

Born and raised in Louisiana, David earned his law degree with honors from Tulane Law School, where he was an editor of the Law Review. Chosen a Rhodes Scholar for his leadership skills, he earned an economics degree with highest honors from Oxford, and graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University.

David is married to Wendy Baldwin Vitter, a former prosecutor. They live in Metairie with their four children - Sophie (13), twins Lise and Airey (9), and Jack (4) - and are lectors at St. Francis Xavier Church.

Let's legalize harmless vices like prostitution! This way, he can cheat on his wife and not have to worry about any legal repercussions!

nah, he just won't have to pay for sex if he switches to dems.

BTW- he committed adultry too, and if he banged any of those hookers in the arse prior to 03' in Louisinana, he broke the Louisiana sodomy law as well.

I think there should be a congressional inquiry into the matter, funded by repealing the tax cuts for the Greedy Bush Cronies.

Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) first got his start in Congress after replacing former Rep. Bob Livingston (R-LA), who “abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs” in 1998. At the time, Vitter argued that an extramarital affair was grounds for resignation:

"I think Livingston’s stepping down makes a very powerful argument that Clinton should resign as well and move beyond this mess," he said. [Atlanta Journal and Constitution, 12/20/98]

He is an example of what Barney Frank said of many of his collegues (I'm quoting from memory, so its probably not exact): "They cheat on their wives and say they are protecting marriage by keeping me from marrying another man."

From the article: Vitter was one of the top backers of a failed constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage

I'm didn't say I was for it. I asked if it was illegal in his home state, tongue firmly in cheek.

I heard a quote on the radio from his wife during the Lewinski issue. She said if her's cheated, he wouldn't need a lawyer, he'd need a doctor, ala, Lorena Bobbit. They went on to say that she's standing by her man.

What he did was clearly wrong. Moral issues aside, which can't be done, but, he should have to leave just for being stupid. Regardless of party, anyone who used a traceable phone to call hookers isn't smart enough to be voting on our laws.

Buddah...the government does not "technically" produce any MONEY. They take money from us. See everything they government does COSTS you and ME. (now I don't know how they teach it in the beltway mentality schools but in my Junior Highschool Civics classes we were taught that)

Additionally we have the implication that you are GREEDY to want to keep the money you earn...WOW shades of Animal Farm huh...?

It wasn't a one-shot deal for Vitter, so to speak.

"Vitter, a Republican, did not respond to numerous attempts to contact him for comment."

"I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary. If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me."

-- Wendy Vitter (the wife, regarding Hillary not leaving Bill)

And an interesting quote from Larry Flint re: exposing hypocrisy: "If they don't shoot their mouths off, they go back in the river."

Family Values apparently means getting a bj from some strange.

Whatever you need, but if that is the case, at least keep your yap shut about defining who is good and who is bad for the sexual encounters they have. IMHO, sex is sex and politics is politics and just keep the two separate. the only reason this thing is in the news is because the guy is a moron for being a walking contra-dick-shun.

TITUSVILLE -- Florida Rep. Robert "Bob" Allen, R-Merritt Island, was arrested this afternoon at Veteran's Memorial Park on East Broad Street for solicitation for prostitution.

He is currently being booked into Brevard County Jail in Sharpes. The charge is a second-degree misdemeanor, according to police.

According to police, the park was under surveillance today by a detail of undercover Titusville Police officers. Officers noticed Allen acting suspicious as he went in and out of the men’s restroom three times. Minutes later, he solicited an undercover male officer inside the restroom, offering to perform oral sex for $20.

Officers realized he was a public figure after the arrest.

Allen, as he was taken out of the Titusville Police Department to be transported to Sharpes, called the situation "a very big misunderstanding," in comments to WFTV Channel 9.

"This is disgusting," Allen said.

At 6:12 p.m., Allen was being screened by medical staff in the jail at Sharpes and will be waiting in a holding cell until a new shift starts work a little after 6 p.m. His bail has been set at $500, according to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.

Allen, is a former Little League volunteer who also donated time to the Boys and Girls Club, serving on its board of directors. Allen is married and has a teenaged daughter.

The Merritt Island resident was born in 1958 and moved to Brevard County in 1964. He attended the University of Central Florida and Florida State University.

In 2004, he told FLORIDA TODAY that he was seeking re-election "to continue the the positive direction and successes we've achieved during my first two terms."

"With you behind me," he continued, "I will continue to stand up against special interests and lobbyists who are backing my opponents and want your legislator to do their bidding instead of representing you."

Allen was term limited to 2008 and there was speculation that he would would then try to run for state Sen. Bill Posey's seat.

Allen was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000. Most recently he was serving as the chair of the House Committee on Energy. Allen was planning to serve as a House co-chair for Senator John McCain's presidential campaign.

Allen said he was drawn to McCain's exemplary record of military and elected service. He also said McCain had a proven ability and track record.

Because Allen is charged with a misdemeanor, there are no automatic actions called for by the constitution, state law or House practice.

Constitutional officers convicted of felonies are subject to automatic removal from office, said Jill Chamberlin, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Marco Rubio. Even under those circumstances, officials are often allowed to exhaust all legal appeals before action is taken.

Chamberlin Wednesday night said information about Allen available to the speaker's office remained sketchy. She said Rubio first asked that more information be gathered "so we can be deliberative in our response."

However, the charges Allen faces mean there won't be a clear-cut response.

"In this case, because it's a misdemeanor, there is no automatic process, no procedure in place," Chamberlin said.

Any House action would rely on "legislative discretion," Chamberlin said.

Gov. Charlie Crist's office did not have an immediate comment Wednesday evening.

State Attorney Norman Wolfinger said that Allen would be treated no differently from anyone else charged with a crime in BrevardCounty -- with one exception.

Wolfinger is sending the case to his Seminole County office, where Misdemeameanor Chief Pat Whitaker will handle it.

"If a Seminole County polictician were arrested I'd send the case over here to Michelle Jackson." Wolfinger said.

Wolfinger said that second-degree misdemeanor carries a maximum sentence of 60 days in the county jail.

"Obviously everyone is presumed innocent and we'll just have to await the case from Titusville P.D."

Regarding the trio of area politicians facing legal troubles, Wolfinger said, "I don't think there is anything in the air or anything like that. We'll just have to let it play its course."

Wolfinger praised attorney Whitaker calling him a very good attorney.

"He will give the case the attention it warrants," Wolfinger said.
