Avoiding Jury DutyView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 14 of 14 messages posted.
Admitting your faults.... “http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/07/10/reluctant.juror.ap/index.html Man writes he's a Homophobic, Racist, Liar. under questioning by the judge says so, and admitts to disliking jury duty.... So agreeing that you simply do not wish to be a juror is cause for criminal prosecution?” 10:49:13 AM 7/10/07 “It said he could face perjury charges. That's sort of funny. He's lying about lying.” 10:52:12 AM 7/10/07 Think about it... “when I say... "Everthing I say is a lie" then everything I just said is untrue...and therefore a lie....” 10:52:41 AM 7/10/07 “but he was telling the truth when he said he'd lie!” 11:10:28 AM 7/10/07 “Conundrum?” 11:11:13 AM 7/10/07 “Lawyer to prospective Juror: "Can you remain objective and make a decision based only on evidenc presented?" Prospective Juror to Lawyer: "Certainly! now can you get the guilty Bastige in here so we can get on with the Hangin'?"” 11:37:11 AM 7/10/07 “Well, as long as there are enough jurors for the case, someone willing to go through all that -- even the judge's questioning, is probably better off not sitting on the jury. Sometimes I wonder if there should be like a "dishonorable discharge" for jury duty that would be on your background record; kind of not fair to the people who do put their life on hold to serve, no? Either way, the case is probably far better off with jurors that, at least, are willing to hear the case -- even if they would really rather be somewhere else.” 4:31:10 PM 7/10/07 “And this guy didn't even leak some low level CIA worker's cover?” 7:34:55 PM 7/10/07 ““when I say... "Everthing I say is a lie" then everything I just said is untrue...and therefore a lie....” SuperTroll 11:52:41 AM 7/10/07” That's Epimenides' classic paradox (he was the Cretan who said "Cretans always lie")” 9:32:12 PM 7/10/07 “In Illinois, if one corrects the false testimony before he leaves the stand as this person did, he cannot be prosecuted for perjury.” 10:52:10 PM 7/10/07 “i thought the controversy that sarah silverman got into was funny. she was talking about getting out of jury duty. some chinese fellow was the defendant, and she said she should say something racist like "i hate chinks", so that she could get dismissed. and then there was this big uproar about it, people were calling her racist. but how could she be a racist if she first says "this is a racist thing to say" people are stupid” 10:59:23 PM 7/10/07 “I don't think they prosecute jurors for lying...we had a case here where we were hearing a murder for hire case. The black suspect had held a shotgun to the head of a wife (her hubby had hired her) and blew her brains all over their 6 year old child. He showed zip zero NADA in remorse...even going so far as to brag about what he did. At the trial he is convicted...then the war starts ONLY ONE juror (who strangely had just moved from Atlanta) was against the death penalty. His excuse,"I can't give the death penalty to a black man, he has no malice in his heart." Now the jurors are asked in the screening if they have a problem with giving the death penalty...he lied (heck I think he admitted lying). Personally...I will do anything I can to GET on a jury...I am gonna get struck but I want to be there to try the Prosecution's side in the Juror room... Or if it looks like we will get the IDIOT factor...LOL...throw a chair through a window and get a mistrail declared.” 7:19:52 AM 7/11/07 “Actually, that juror sounds a lot like XL” 8:55:44 AM 7/11/07 “LOL..I love libbies...you guys want a feeling, caring Andy Taylor kinda law enforcement when it is your tail, but if you are wronged you Want CLINT EASTWOOD (bugle call here) to come in a kick ass and take names....(LOL) Hypocrisy is your stock in trade.” 9:28:57 AM 7/11/07
